Redistricting, a big word with big impact. Not to be confused with gerrymandering. Another big word with big impact. Redistricting occurs every ten years in alignment with updated census information. Why redistricting? People are born, die, and move. Communities grow and shrink. Areas, where there was once roughly the same number of people become unequal. In California, the process of redistricting is one to watch closely as it could have real impact to those of us living and working here in inland North County. Redistricting is a legally required process that occurs every ten years in which districts for the U.S. House and state legislatures are redrawn. The Chamber, through our Government Affairs committee headed by newly appointed Committee Chair Stan Weiler is bringing in Commissioner Sinay to our monthly meeting Tuesday, May 4th to explain the process to us. Thank you goes out to Shawn Roner, Executive Director of American Heritage Charter Schools, Karen Prescott-Loeffler, NECA Director of Government Relations, and Cristina Marquez for working with the Chamber and presenting the opportunities available in the electrical trade field to an opt in group of students. “Every student should have the chance to explore multiple pathways to a rewarding career,” said Shawn Roner. The Chamber was the catalyst to launch this CTE program and we look to connect more students with the contracting trades to present opportunities such as these presented Monday.
And, thank you goes to Torrey Cluett and his staff and management for inviting the Chamber to celebrate their 4th restaurant opening with a ribbon cutting at Barrel Republic yesterday. Our Mayor and several other political representatives attended along with various members of the business community. Welcome to Escondido!
Our Rising Stars program has finished another successful season this past Wednesday and now it’s on to sifting through the applicants and award the scholarships! Well done Mona Durney for spearheading this program through its 4th year. And, thank you to the high schools, their principals, counselors and teachers who have contributed to this program. But, most importantly, congratulations to the students and their families who shared their amazing stories and overcame many challenges to earn their education.
