WE'RE TALKING PLAYOFFS!

The Hyacks will begin the "new season" on Friday, as the BCSSFA playoffs begin at Mercer Stadium on Friday night. This will be a AAA Wildcard playoff game, as the Hyacks get set to face Terry Fox, for the 3rd straight post-season. The home team will carry a 5-2 league record (6-3 overall) into the game, along with the 3rd seed in the hyper-competitive Western Conference.

New West is coming off a disappointing loss to South Delta last Friday night to wrap up the regular season. Despite the loss, Vishaan Narayan continues his impressive season, with 6 tackles and a sack. The game was also a chance for the NWSS program to recognize 19 graduating seniors (17 players & 2 managers), led by the longest serving Hyacks: Greyson Planinsic, Pavan Kainth and Jayden Williams.

For those fans who are out of town and can't make it back for the game, you can catch all the action online in the BCSSFA Game of the Week webcast

THREE HYACKS EARN ALL-STAR SELECTIONS

Congratulations to Taran Birdi, Pavan Kainth and Vishaan Narayan, who were just named to the AAA Western Conference All-star team.

Taran is an extremely gifted cornerback and the fact that he has only generated 20 tackles is a testament to the fact that very few teams attempted to throw in his direction. Taran is also a punter, kick returner, receiver and quart erback with the Hyacks, and is among the top defensive back recruits in Canada.

Pavan was selected as an offensive lineman, helping pave the way for an offense that has rushed for close to 2300 yards and 24 TDs in 9 games. He is also a team captain. Defensively Pavan is 3rd on the team with 40 tackles, along with a pair of sacks and fumble recoveries.

Vishaan was ranked as the #1 defensive lineman in the conference. He leads the Hyacks in tackling with 43 tackles and 4 sacks.

JVs DEFEAT STM, BEGIN PLAYOFFS THURSDAY

The Hyacks will enter the AAA JV playoffs with a #3 seed following a hard fought 14-13 win over STM last Thursday at Burnaby Lake. Jairus Pagtakhan opened the scoring on the Hyacks' first drive with a 13 yard run. Ethan Bresser made it 14-0 with a 15 yard TD run of his own, early in the 4th quarter. Harj Grewal played his best game of the season at QB.

From there the Hyacks hung on, thanks in large part to a blocked PAT from Jacob MacCumber, late in the 4th quarter, which would have tied the game. Robert Preda and Dyson Glavas also stood out defensively.

The Hyacks will take on Belmont from Victoria in their playoff game on Thursday.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

PEE WEE
The pee wees wrapped up the regular season with a 26-14 win over White Rock on Sunday at Mercer Stadium. Ajay Meltzer scored 3 TDs, two along the ground and one on a reception. Lukas Lalji rushed for the other TD and passed for one, while Nathan Hillmann ran hard all game. Other defensive standouts were Kieren Courchaine, Alex Jasper and Guido Catania. The team will play in the VMFL semi finals at Cloverdale on Sunday.

ATOM
The Atoms lost 20-6 at White Rock in the VMFL quarter finals. Despite the loss the team played one of their most complete games of the season. The Hyacks had plenty of red zone opportunities, but only converted once, on a great run by Jaishon Llewellyn. Strong defensive performances came from Joey Baker, Owen Coelho and Liam Uppal on defense. They will continue play this Sunday in the Presidents Cup.

TYKE FLAG :
Both Black and Orange teams took part in the VMFL jamboree on Saturday, with Team Black competing in the strongest Pool (A) of the event. The team ended up with 3 losses and 1 tie, but still managed to score TD's in all of the games. The most impressive play was a TD by Alex Paterakis against North Surrey. Thanks to coaches Brian, Gary, and Mike for a great season.
