The Town works closely with the NCDOT to request funding for new projects impacting state-owned streets.
Here's the challenge: Cornelius is one of hundreds of towns and cities within the State requesting NCDOT funding for road projects. And due to many variables, there is a state-wide backlog that has caused several delays to an already lengthy process.
Here's the good news: The NCDOT prioritizes state-managed road projects when a jurisdiction contributes financially to the project. And Cornelius is ahead of the game.
The Town has been allocating funds to help support much-needed road projects. In fact, we've earmarked $24 million in voter-approved road bonds for NCDOT projects.
What does this mean for our Town? Our proactive approach to dedicating resources - financial and otherwise - has made it easier for the NCDOT to consider and prioritize our requests.
In fact, per capita, the Town of Cornelius has the most NCDOT projects on schedule than any other town or city in the State! Why have we taken this unique approach to budgeting?
Because it's the 'Cornelius Way'!
