December Holiday Celebration
 
The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) held a celebration of the season from the ROOF of the Wit Hotel on Wednesday, December 11, 2019.  The mid-afternoon program was highlighted by the plaque presentation for Advent Systems, Inc. for their 25th anniversary as a NECA member and the awarding of the ECA "Recognition of Excellence" Award to Steve Diamond, Malko Communication Services, LLC for his many years of volunteer service to the Association, the Electrical Insurance Trust (EIT), and the industry.  We congratulate Michael Walsdorf and Michael Schwarz of Advent Systems for their years of service!  We thank Steve for all his efforts!

Young Professionals of ECA:  2020 Leadership Conference / Holiday Happy Hour 
Holiday Happy Hour
The ECA Young Professionals Holiday Happy Hour was held on December 18, 2019 at Five Roses Pub in the Rosemont Entertainment District.  The Happy Hours are designed to give young professionals a chance to meet with peers in the industry, in a social, relaxed environment.  Keep on the lookout for upcoming sessions!

Young Professionals Conference
As a reminder, the Young Professionals Conference will be held on February 6 - 7, 2020 at the Westin in Itasca, Illinois.  This year's conference will focus on the theme: "Setting the  P.A.C.E.  of our Future".

NECA Opens Submission for 2020 Project 

Excellence Awards

NECA will begin accepting submissions for the 2020 Project Excellence Awards Program on January 1, 2020

These prestigious awards recognize NECA member companies for their outstanding commitment, professionalism and ingenuity in delivering an electrical project across 12 different market sectors:
  • Commercial/Institutional
  • Design Build
  • Educational
  • Energy Solutions/        Green Building
  • Healthcare
  • Industrial
  • Low Voltage/   
    Integrated Systems
  • Overhead Transmission
  • Residential
  • Street Lighting/         Traffic Signal
  • Substation/Interconnection
  • Transportation & Infrastructure
Entries 
Entries feature projects small and large, from religious facilities, schools   and universities to hospitals, hotels, commercial office buildings, sports stadiums and large solar installations. 

Submissions for projects completed in 2019 will be accepted until April 30.

Program Rules and Information:

To be eligible, a NECA member must have performed the installation. It must have been completed between Jan. 1, 2019 and Dec. 31, 2019. The deadline for submissions for the 2020 Project Excellence Awards is April 30.

CISCO Scholarships Available 

As a reminder, t he Construction Industry Service Corporation (CISCO) is a joint labor-management group consisting of numerous area unions and construction trade associations in the Northeastern Illinois area. The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) is an active member. All signatory Local Union #134, IBEW contractors and signatory electricians can benefit from CISCO programming. 

CISCO is accepting applications for its 2020 Scholarship Program.  The three different categories enable a wider range of students of both union building trade members and union contractor employees to apply.  CISCO offers (3), four-year scholarships to high school seniors; (2), two-year awards for seniors planning on attending a community college; and (2), two-year continuing education awards to union members or contractor employees.

Electric Association 2020 Scholarship Program
 
The Electrical Contractors' Association of City of Chicago (ECA) offers all ECA members the opportunity to participate with the Electric Association (EA). The ECA covers EA membership fee for all ECA member firms. The Electric Association Education Foundation is pleased to open the application period for the following seven academic scholarships:
 
Electric Association Scholarship ($2500)
The Kinander Family Scholarship ($2500)
The Steiner Kerman Education Foundation Scholarship ($2500)
The Joseph J. Archibald Jr. Memorial Scholarship ($2500)
The Rosenstein Family Scholarship ($2500)

Safety Conference

This Annual Construction Expo and Safety Conference, co-hosted by the Association of Subcontractors and Affiliates of Chicago (ASA Chicago) and Construction Safety Council (CSC) serves Chicagoland construction industry professionals by providing unique opportunities for business-to-business commerce, education and networking.   The event is being held at the Drury Lane Conference Center in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois on March 2 - 3, 2020.

Safety Forum
--February 13, 2020 
 
The Chicago & Cook County Chapter, NECA Safety Committee and the Northeastern Illinois Chapter, NECA Safety Committee are jointly sponsoring a morning Safety Forum on Thursday, February 13, 2020 at 8:00 am at the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (INTECH) in Alsip, Illinois.  The speakers for the program are: Ms. Karen Rioux, Partner,
MCGann, Ketterman & Rioux and William Heffernan, Co-founder, Employee Resource Systems, Inc.  The presentations are to include discussion of the Illinois Workplace Transparency Act concerning employer obligations for Sexual Harassment Prevention Training and Reasonable Suspicion implementation including impact of the new Illinois Recreational Marijuana Law.   The forum is complimentary for all ECA members.  Registration is now open on the ECA website at www.ecachicago.com.
