Citizen Budget Advisory Committee Meeting
The Citizen Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) meets Wednesday, October 16 at 7:30 a.m. in Council Chambers, 911 10th St.
During the meeting, CBAC will discuss the following items:
- Review monthly sales and use tax report
- Discussion on IT and cybersecurity
- 3rd Quarter financial reports
- 2020 operating budget

City Council Study Session
Golden City Council will meet Thursday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, 911 10th St.
During the study session, City Council will discuss the following items:
- Staff will present a concept for a proposed "Laundry To Landscape" program to allow single family homes to divert graywater from laundry facilities to outdoor landscape beds. The presentation will include research findings the results of a $25,000 grant received by the City from WaterNow, a recommendation from the Community Sustainability Advisory Board and a draft ordinance for discussion.
- A presentation of the Community Engagement Planning Guide, which will serve as the City staff's operational standards moving forward. This guide stems from the City Communications and Community Engagement Strategic Framework approved by Council in July 2018.
- A memo is provided to City Council with history, an overview and current status of the Rooney Road Sports Complex, including plans for upcoming CIP spending.
- Council will review and discuss the City Manager's recommendation for the 2020 Operating Budget and proposed rate/fee changes in accordance with the provisions of the Charter for the City of Golden.

Whale of a Used Book Sale
The annual Whale of a Used Book Sale happens
October 18 - 20 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 15200 W. 6th Ave. Frontage Rd.
Build your library and find amazing deals with prices starting at just 50 cents, all while supporting the Jefferson County Library Foundation.
Shop for gently used, new and antique books, along with DVDs, CDs, and records for children and adults.
The sale opens to the public on Friday, October 18 from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. with free admission, or pay $10 for Early Bird Admission at 8 a.m. On Saturday, the sale is again open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., and teachers, Friends of JCPL and Jeffco Employees enjoy 50% savings on purchases. October 20, the final day of the sale runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Pro Bono Day at Jefferson County Court
Pro Bono Day at Jefferson County Court is an opportunity to receive free legal advice. Members of the public will have up to fifteen minutes to speak with an attorney for various areas of law. No registration is required for this service; it is first-come, first-served.
The event will be held in the main atrium of the Jefferson County Courthouse on
Wednesday, October 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Golden Mayor's Community Celebration
Join Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan for the Mayor's Community Celebration.
This free event begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30 at the Student Center on the Colorado School of Mines campus.
The night will begin with a performance from the Mines Band, led by Mines Music Director Robert Klimek. Then join the Mayor in recognizing Goldenites who have contributed greatly to making a difference in the community. Following the presentation of the awards, we are pleased to introduce Dr. Martín Carcasson as the evening's keynote speaker.
Martín Carcasson, Ph.D., is a professor in the Communication Studies department of Colorado State University (CSU), the founder and director of the CSU Center for Public Deliberation (CPD). Dr. Carcasson's research focuses on helping local communities address "wicked problems" more productively through improved public communication, community problem solving, and collaborative decision-making. The CPD is a practical, applied extension of his work, and functions as an impartial resource dedicated to enhancing local democracy in Northern Colorado. Dr. Carcasson and the staff train students to serve as impartial facilitators, who then work with local governments, school boards, and community organizations to design, facilitate, and report on innovative projects and events on key community issues.
Dr. Carcasson will talk about how conversations between neighbors, and strong community dedication to deliberate engagement, can result in respectful and collaborative community results.
There is no need to RSVP for this free event. Simply come and celebrate the contributions of members of the Golden community!

Gwyn Green Scholarship
A campaign recently launched to endow a Red Rocks Community College scholarship fund in honor of Golden's legendary Rep. Gwyn Green, who passed away a year ago.
Rep. Green cared deeply about caring for the vulnerable and less fortunate members of our community, and this scholarship will help create opportunities, while honoring her legacy.

2019 Street Improvement Program
All paving operations have been completed for the season.

2019 Utility Replacement
Sewer main construction at 9th and Maple to 8th street is expected to be completed by October 25.
Seeding at the CSM survey field and some concrete repairs on Johnson Road still need to be completed on the watermain replacements in those areas.

Water Valve Replacement
There is a leaking valve just north of the Shelton Elementary school crosswalk. The City has been in communication with Jefferson County School's Building Maintenance as it is their valve. The repair is scheduled for October 25, when there will be no students in the building.

- Sept 25 - Nov 21: 14th St. from Cheyenne to the alley between Cheyenne and Illinois - construction will impact a parking lane and sidewalk.
- Sept 30 - Oct 11: 8th, 9th, 10th St and alleys - parking lane will be impacted by aerial fiber work.
- Oct 1 - Jan 3: Cheyenne St. from 8th to 7th - sidewalk will be impacted by new construction on the lot.
- Oct 7 - 18: 7th & Ford from Washington to 18th - a traffic lane and sidewalk will be impacted by aerial cable work.
- Oct 1 - 31: 16th St. from Illinois to Arapahoe - a traffic lane and part of the sidewalk will be impacted by construction equipment.
- Oct 7 - 25: Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Illinois, Maple, 3rd - 6th St. traffic lane, parking lane, sidewalk and alley will be impacted by fiber work.
- Oct 10 - 21: Table Mt Parkway from Table Mt. Dr. to McIntyre St - a traffic lane and sidewalk will be impacted by directional boring.
- Oct 14 - 18: On Cascade Dr from Ridge Rd to Cressman Ct., a parking lane is impacted by relocation of a Comcast pedestal.
- Oct 16: Heritage Rd from 6th to Warner - sidewalk will be closed in order to access a manhole.
- Oct 16 - 22: Brickyard Circle from Hog Back Dr to 100' south - traffic lane will be impacted by a coax pull.
- Oct 21 - Nov 1: Brickyard Rd from Brickyard to Pine Ridge - one lane will be impacted by pedestal installations.
- Arapahoe St. between 13th and 14th (in front of Calvary Episcopal Church) has been extended until October 9. Due to the construction activity, parking spaces will also be lost during this time.
- The closure of 17th St. between Washington to Jackson for construction staging and access for CSM's project at 1750 Jackson St. has been extended through the end of October.
- Sept 5 - Jan 3: A parking lane at 708 and 710 Cheyenne will be impacted due to construction.
- October 2 - November 30: The parking lane on Table Drive behind 2127 Vernon Drive will be impacted for construction of residence at 2127 Vernon Drive.
