In Celebration of Social Work Month

This March, we pay tribute to the social workers we have at Cancer Care, whose vital efforts set us apart from other support organizations. Social Work Month is a good time to remind ourselves of the vital clinical work they put in throughout the year.

In the last fiscal year, our oncology social workers helped 79,842 people affected by cancer through the range of our programs and services. Our social services team accomplishes a remarkable amount on any given day. They answer calls on our Hopeline, facilitate support groups, offer individual counseling by phone and in person, organize community events, write articles, speak at conferences and still find time to initiate new projects, like our inaugural podcast, Cancer Out Loud

" Social workers have always been the heart and soul of Cancer Care," says Patricia J. Goldsmith, Cancer Care's Chief Executive Officer. "This celebration of the social services department reflects the admiration we hold for the staff's compassion and generosity of spirit throughout the year."

We are not alone in recognizing the significant accomplishments of our staff. Later this month, both Marissa Fors, Director of the Susan G. Komen® Breast Care Helpline, and Sarah Paul, Social Work Senior Program Director, will be honored by the National Association of Social Workers' New York City chapter with the Aqua Leadership Award. These awards recognize their exemplary leadership and contributions to the field, and we are grateful that they chose to dedicate their efforts to Cancer Care's clients.
