 IN-PERSON WORSHIP
SUNDAYS AT 7:45 AM & 10:15 AM

ONLINE WORSHIP

Greetings fellow Sojourners!
This has been an amazing week! It has been said that "St. Michael's shows up!" and that has been evident in the last 7 days. Last week I asked you to come along Lake Silver Elementary by helping us with a series of requests. Within 2 HOURS of the email going out, a couple felt called to say, "We will sponsor the entire cost of the white boards for Lake Silver students. We hope that this will encourage others."

Well, it did. I'm happy to say they will be delivered to the school today! On Sunday I received more emails and as of Tuesday we had raised the money for the Expo markers and almost half of the funds for the laptop sleeves. On Tuesday afternoon I had a call with the Lake Silver PTA. They are so excited about our efforts to assist their students. Jessica happened to mention that she was in charge of distributing and organizing the mail order school supply kits from back in June. She said, "I saw the first few St. Michael's ones and they just kept on coming!" What is also great is that many folks added backpacks to their order, so we are in good shape for the students returning for Face to Face learning on August 21.

She also mentioned that, between the school supplies that parishioners had ordered and a drop of supplies that I was able to purchase during the tax free weekend, we have plenty of Expo markers to go around! That leaves us just the laptop sleeves.
With the marker funds added in, we have currently raised $1600 of the $3200 total cost.

We also would like to fund the "Love Pantry" for Lake Silver through the Christian Service Center again this year. Last year we began this partnership by sponsoring the Love Pantry at Edgewater High School and Lake Silver.

How does it work? For $2,000 per year per school, the schools are able to order unlimited amounts of 25 staple items from which families can make a variety of meals. (We supplement this with "Feed My Lambs" providing expanded varieties of ready to eat foods and classroom snacks.)  Perhaps since we are currently unable to collect our usual Feed My Lambs items you would consider making a gift to this project...

What do I love about the Love Pantry? It really allows us to support two great local organizations at one time! If any individuals or families are interested in sponsoring a "Love Pantry" please email me at [email protected] and I'll be happy to provide details.

Again, my heart is full. Thank you so much for reaching out to those in need. You are truly the hands and feet of Christ!

God Bless, Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!
Mike Robertson

During the service at the appropriate time during the Great Thanksgiving, you can receive the sacrament and share it with those in your home who are participating with you. FLOWER SPONSORSHIP AT ST. MICHAEL'S

The flowers that adorn the altar every Sunday are given to the glory of God and as an offering of worship! We invite you to join in sponsoring the flowers each week in memoriam or thanksgiving for family, friends and occasions. This is a beautiful and vital ministry as we worship God through His creation!

To sponsor flowers during this season email [email protected]. Please include your desired date/dates and the wording of your memorial/sponsorship exactly as you would like it to appear in the bulletin. Send this in by the Sunday prior to the desired date so that we can ensure that it is included in the next Sunday's bulletin.

NOTICE ANYTHING BRIGHTER?

The next time you are in the Sanctuary or on campus in the evening, take a look at the side stained glass windows. They should appear much brighter!

Thank you to several Scouts from St Michael's Scouts BSA Boy Troop 200 & Girl Troop 200 for relamping the fixtures with LED bulbs and adjusting them so they shine on the windows. Not only do the windows look much brighter, the new bulbs are significantly less expensive to run, allowing us to run them in the evenings providing more light on campus.

Community Service is an essential part of Scouting. Scouts BSA Scouts (I know that sounds redundant) need community service hours for each of their rank advancements on the trail to Eagle, where they each have a project to manage.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT

Sunday, August 16, 6:30 PM Join us for 15-20 mins of "Songs & Prayers Time" this Sunday for our young ones!  We always start with "The Lord's Prayer", close with a sung rendition of "Good Night Moon" that Andrew wrote - including an evening prayer woven in at the end, and 4-6 other beloved songs from our Angels Choir repertoire! Please invite family and friends - and, as it's a Zoom event, they could be anywhere in the US!  ....or another country, for that matter!

THE 11th SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
The Gospel of Matthew's account of the Canaanite woman who has a daughter tormented by demons, and begs Jesus to heal her.  Jesus's response: "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." - having just said he was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.  But she persists, and Jesus finally says - "Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish."  Her daughter is healed instantly.  I must admit, having taken part in a Bible study of this passage where we were invited to take on the persona of each of the characters - my group was the Canaanite woman.... we were not happy!  I am glad to be a church musician today, and not the priest giving the sermon.  But maybe there is something going on here regarding Matthew writing about preaching to the Gentiles.  In Chapter 8, the account of the Centurion's slave being healed - another non-Jew, a Gentile - Jesus says of the Centurion "Truly I tell you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith."  Quite the dramatic scene with this Canaanite woman - our organ music today will reflect that.  The Communion Anthem also has words of pain and grief, and the healing touch of divine music.

Sing me to heaven   D. Gawthrop (b. 1949)
This anthem is dedicated to all those who have been affected in any way by the 2020 Covid-19 Pandemic.
In my heart's sequestered chambers lie
Truths stripped of poet's gloss.
Words alone are vain and vacant,
And my heart is mute.
In response to aching silence memory
Summons half-heard voices,
And my soul finds primal eloquence and
Wraps me in song.
Wraps me in song.

If you would comfort me,
Sing me a lullaby.
If you would win my heart,
Sing me a love song.
If you would mourn me and bring me to God,
Sing me a requiem,
Sing me to heaven.

Touch in me all love and passion,
Pain and pleasure,
Touch in me grief and comfort;
Love and passion,
Pain and pleasure.

Sing me a lullaby, a love song, a requiem,
Love me, comfort me, bring me to God:
Sing me a love song,
Sing me to heaven.

Closing           470 There's a wideness in God's mercy
