Measure A Update from Superintendent Scuderi and Board President Mia Bonta
As of early Wednesday morning, the Alameda County Registrar of Voters website showed all precincts in Alameda reporting with 63.16% of votes in support of Measure A.
This number is just below the 66.7% or 2/3 vote needed to pass the measure.
However, there is much more to the story, and we remain positive about this much-needed parcel tax. Please see this joint message

Maya Lin Students Tackle Plastic
First graders from Maya Lin School attended the launch of a new campaign against single use plastic at the Oakland Zoo last month and also had the chance to raise their own voices about this growing problem.
"We came because we wanted to see what the zoo does to help the ocean and so we could get ideas of more things to do to help," 6-year-old Yael said.

Classroom Peek: Wood Middle School Talk Tuesday
Several Tuesdays a month, students at Wood Middle School host "Talk It Out" Tuesday. Overseen by the Wood Counseling Team but run by WMS peer facilitators, the sessions give students a chance to "talk out" anything that's troubling them. In response, their peers ask restorative questions to guide them in sorting out their challenges. It's an excellent opportunity for students to practice ally-ship, develop leadership skills, learn restorative practices, and earn community service hours.

Maya Lin School
Principal Judy Goodwin
, who was honored at the 21st Annual Women Who Dare Awards Ceremony on February 29. Ms. Goodwin, who has been an educator for 30 years and an AUSD administrator for 20 years, was honored for leading the arts-integrated, inquiry-based program at Maya Lin School and for helping students learn to navigate the world.
Zohra Rahimi,
a senior at ASTI, was also honored at the Girls, Inc. event. Miss Rahimi co-directs the Alameda Initiative, which provides tutoring to elementary school students, and is also a student representative to the AUSD Board of Education. She was honored for her passionate leadership, academic success, and commitment to community service.

District and Schools Host Multicultural Events
Three wonderful multicultural events took place in AUSD last week: a Cultural Voices Oratorical
at Ruby Bridges Elementary School; AUSD's second Back History Month Celebration; and a multi-language Story Night at Paden Elementary School. Learn more here.
