THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW
Sunday, March 8 at 10:15 a.m. in Sanctuary

Sometimes we imagine that wisdom lives only in our heads, but our bodies and hands have great wisdom as well. It is in how we respond to the world with our hands and our hearts, in embodied service, that wisdom and hope can grow. So many at UUCUC give with their hands – serving at the soup kitchen, making meals for those sick at home, volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, handing out programs on Sunday morning, opening the door to visitors, even holding the hand of another who is suffering. Let’s celebrate the wisdom of our own two hands. The UUCUC choir will be singing. We will also have some very special guest singers.

UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICES
REV. BILL BREEDEN
Sunday, March 15 at 10:15 a.m. in Sanctuary

From Aesop to Orwell, and times in between and after both, the animal world has given us a lens through which to see ourselves. So it is with this strange incident involving a Rooster in our flock.  It might not be a lot to crow about, but then again, it just might.
REV. AARON STOCKWELL
Sunday, March 22 at 10:15 a.m. in Sanctuary

Annie Dillard once wrote “How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives.” How we spend our lives can also be a statement of our values. What do the moments where we experience awe and wonder say about our values?

“Who Is Dayani Cristal?” tells the story of a migrant who found himself in the deadly stretch of desert known as “the corridor of death” and shows how one life becomes testimony to the tragic results of the U.S. war on immigration. As the real-life drama unfolds we see this John Doe, denied an identity at his point of death, become a living and breathing human being with an important life story. Read more...

A joy shared by Kelly Halcom
Feeling joy and gratitude for having such wonderful adult leaders in our congregation. Thank you to the wonderful Randy Locke, Lara Breeze-Troyer, Michele Grove, and Andy Townsend for accompanying six of our youth to their first mini-con in Springfield, with our central-IL youth. The giving of your time, your love, and your patience is a gift to our youth, their parents, our church, and our world.

A joy shared by Sandy Hannum
Gratitude for all the caring and concern expressed by people in the congregation for me in my illness. A special thank you to Florence for lifting me up. And a huge thank you to Jim, who is treating me like some kind of queen. That's just the way he is.

A joy shared by Karla Peterson
Thank you to Care Core and Florence for the beautiful memorial sharing opportunity for my dear friend Anne Reeser.

UUCUC Shared Offering.  Each month a selected organization is chosen to receive half of our weekly Sunday plate collections, designated checks written to UUCUC with organization's name written in the memo line, cash envelopes designated for "Shared Offering" within the specified month and on-line donations through our  GIVE WEBPAGE .

During the month of March, we will support the Randolph Street Community Garden. The Randolph Street Community Garden is a volunteer run project committed to providing an opportunity for the residents of the North-end of Champaign to grow their own fresh organic produce. We believe that community gardening makes our neighborhood more cohesive and improves the quality of our lives. Read more....

Through the Social Action Committee our congregation has been branching out to support many important projects in our community. This year, again, acutely aware of the need for good news and information sources are not subject to corporate control, we are underwriting Democracy Now!, a daily, global, independent news hour. It's hard to talk about death and dying, so most of us don't ever do it. "How and where will I die?" might be the most expensive question never to have asked. More, "How do I want my death to go?" might be the most emotionally costly discussion never to have had with your friends and family.  Read more...
GIVING AND GRATITUDE
PLEDGERS CREATE GARDEN

Throughout the Generosity Campaign, each pledger chose a flower to add to our Generosity Garden, creating this lovely arrangement on March 1, Pledge Sunday. Missed it? Choose a flower for yourself at home as a blessing for your pledge. The Generosity Team extends our gratitude to all pledgers and a special thank you to our newest pledgers, our fair share givers, and to each person who set a personal goal. We are especially thankful for the 126 individuals who joined our Leadership Circle by increasing their pledges by 15% or more and/or by giving a gift to our Ministerial set aside fund. This support demonstrates that we are committed to extending the programs, ministries, and justice work of this congregation.
UUCUC SUPPORTS STAND UP TO COAL

Find someone from SAC to learn what it is, how it works, and how you can participate!  Learn more about the status of the mine, sign a petition opposing it, or donate to Stand Up to Coal.
THANK YOU FROM THE UU ADVOCACY NETWORK OF ILLINOIS (UUANI)

UUCUC's Social Action Committee recently contributed $750 to support the UU Advocacy Network of Illinois (UUANI), a statewide organization that works for social justice, voting rights and registration, environment and many other values that we share. We received a letter of thanks this week from Bill Sasso, the Treasurer of UUANI.

Thanks so much for your support! Your generous contribution arrived in today's mail to help us build a stronger UU community for justice throughout Illinois!

In gratitude, Bill Sasso (he/him/his)
