1. Academics Spotlight
Congratulations to senior Curtis Liu for being the first Sea King to qualify for the USA Mathematical Olympiad (USAMO), sponsored by the MAA (Mathematical Association of America). Curtis had to have outstanding national rankings in the AMC (American Mathematics Competition) and the AIME (American Invitational Math Exam) to qualify for the USAMO, which is a six-question, two-day, 9-hour essay/proof examination. Curtis has plans to continue with his love of math and math competitions when majoring in math next year -- he is deciding between several prestigious university math programs. We wish Curtis the best of luck on the USAMO!

The weekend of 3/27 and 3/28, 10 students participated in the USC MUN conference. They all represented PV High well in their committees. Janna Lee received an honorable mention award as Olly Robbins in Brexit. Ryan Hetchler received Best Delegate as David Cameron in Brexit. Well done to all!
4. Club Spotlight
On March 29, PVHS Leadership for Women Club hosted U.S. Congresswoman Grace Meng (D-NY) for a live discussion to share her journey to becoming the first Asian American elected to Congress from New York. Congresswoman Meng is currently spearheading House Resolution 151, which denounces the anti-Asian sentiment that has occurred across the nation since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. Rep. Meng spoke about her career path into politics and difficulties she encountered as a woman in a male-dominated field. She had excellent advice for our students on how to advocate for themselves, find their voice on issues, and find their passion in life. Thank you to club president Keira Wang for organizing this amazing event.
5. Activities Spotlight
This week our Link Crew leaders were able to officially welcome our Class of 2024 to PVHS. Current freshmen had the opportunity to participate in campus tours, see where their classrooms would be, and learn tips and tricks from upperclassmen. Welcome Class of 2024!

6. Student Spotlight
The National Honor Society (NHS) announced that Syndey Singh, a high school senior at Palos Verdes and member of NHS, has been selected as a NHS Scholarship semifinalist. She was chosen from nearly 10,000 applicants and will receive a $3,200 scholarship toward higher education.

Since 1946, more than $19 million in scholarships have been awarded to outstanding NHS senior members to support college access and student success. The scholarship program is supported by the parent organization of NHS, the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).

In the 100 years since NHS was founded in 1921, members have been making a difference in their schools and communities, and the NHS Scholarship is NASSP’s way of recognizing the most exceptional of these student leaders. Recipients are chosen based on their demonstrated work to support the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
