Election Day is Fast Approaching; Support IIPAC Today
The 2018 election is right around the corner. ABI needs your help to ensure the substantive pro-business reforms made over the last two years here in Iowa remain in place. We are asking for your support of IIPAC today. With only 60 DAYS until the general election, can we count on you to donate $60? One dollar a day is just a fraction of the millions of dollars employers have saved thanks to the reforms instituted during the last General Assembly.

The business climate in Iowa is positive. We cannot afford to become complacent. Opponents of pro-jobs policies are actively organizing and raising money, which makes it all the more important that you invest in IIPAC . There are several key races taking place this fall, and it's critical you get out and vote for candidates who support economic growth and increased jobs. If you have already contributed to IIPAC this year, thank you for your support. Please consider sharing this message with a colleague to amplify our voice at the State Capitol.

Federal Spotlight: SCOTUS Confirmation Hearing Underway
D.C. Circuit Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court nominee of President Trump to replace retired Justice Anthony Kennedy, went before the Senate Judiciary Committee this week to provide testimony and receive scrutiny from members of the committee. The hearing began on Tuesday and will likely continue through tomorrow. The atmosphere during the hearing was especially cantankerous as many political observers believe if the Senate ultimately confirms Kavanaugh, it could change the ideological balance of the highest court in the land for at least a generation. Senate Republicans have indicated they would like to have Kavanaugh confirmed before the start of the fall term for the Supreme Court, which begins on October 1.

Water Use Annual Permit Fee on September 18 EPC Agenda
The Department of Natural Resources will propose setting the Water Use Annual Permit Fee at $134, maintaining the fee at the 2018 level. Water use permits are required of any person or entity using 25,000 gallons of water in a single day during the year and are issued for a period of up to 10 years. Iowa Code authorizes the department to charge a fee for the permits and to collect up to $500,000 per year through these fees, but DNR must base the fee on its program budget. For 2019, the DNR will collect an estimated $450,000 from more than 3,000 permits to support the water permit fee program. The department has a carryover from 2018 and also received money from a general fund appropriation to DNR last session. Keep reading.

Mike Ralston
President
ABI

ABI is all about its members. Providing value for members is at the core of everything we do, because if we aren't providing value for you and your company, there is no reason for you to be involved in the association.

The secret to ABI's success is strong leadership by the ABI Board of Directors and fantastic support by ABI members. We never, ever take that leadership and support for granted.

As I do every September, however, I am calling attention to something else this month. That is the work of a terrific ABI staff. Keep reading.
