SFX is continuing the "Virtue of the Month" Program this school year.  Each month we will be stressing one of the human virtues - the good habits and qualities that imitate the life of Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints.

The practice of virtues leads us to live a sincere faith-filled life.  Our very own homes and the daily events of family life are the natural setting for nurturing and training in the development of these virtues, as we want our children to grow up to be happy, mature, and successful Christian men and women who can make good choices that reflect their faith.

Directory Spot
(our online family directory) has been updated. Please check your information.

If you find an error or have trouble accessing Directory Spot, please email Mary Hoffman at  mhoffman@sfxlg.org

Families new to SFX should have received an email with instructions on how to launch Directory Spot on devices.

Picture Day
Thursday September 6th

Van Gogh School Photographers will be at each campus taking student, faculty and staff pictures. Students may be out of uniform, including 8th graders, who have PE that morning.

To avoid blending in with the background, the photographer suggests that the students and faculty do NOT wear green clothing!

This year we are continuing a PRE-PAY picture program. Order envelopes have been sent home with each child. You may order online or return the envelope with your student's order. Upon return homeroom teachers will hold them till picture day. If you do not participate in the pre-pay program, you will still have a chance to order pictures online after re-takes on October 11th.

Vision and Hearing Screening

Vision and Hearing Screening for our students will take place the week of September 17.  Screening will be done at both the East and Main campuses.

East Campus students will be screened on Monday & Tuesday, Sept. 17 & 18.
Preschool parents will receive a yellow pre-screening sheet. Please return it to school as soon as possible.

Main Campus students will be screened on Thursday & Friday, September 20 & 21 Re-screening will take place on Tuesday, October 2.   Re-screening is for those students who were absent or did not pass for the initial screening.

The state mandated grade levels to be screened are:

Preschool 3 and PreK 4 - Vision and Hearing

Kindergarten - Hearing

First grade - Hearing

Second grade - Vision and Hearing

Third grade - Hearing

Eighth grade - Vision

Also to be screened are: fifth graders for vision (while not mandated, technicians and teachers believe it's a good age to re-check), new students, students with Individual Education Plans or who receive special services through the district and teacher or parent referrals.

Parents may request their child be screened for vision, hearing or both. Please send a note or email message to Mrs. Evans at pevans@sfxlg.org requesting screening.

Please also remember, vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Please call Mrs. Evans at the main campus school office with any questions or concerns.

Questions? Catholic Women's Club, Joellen Sorenson: joellen.sorenson@gmail.com

When SFX parishioner Tyler Duelm was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2006 at the age of 3, the SFX community responded with prayers and support for Tyler, his parents, Laura and Brent, and his siblings, Jessica and Jonathan.

After a courageous, 8-month battle, Tyler succumbed to this terrible disease. To support children impacted by cancer, the SFX Catholic Women's Club hosted a parish-wide party and toy drive in honor of Tyler's birthday. Now in its 12th year, the tradition of a community birthday party in September continues in Tyler's memory. Toys for Tyler is a great opportunity for young ones in our parish to embrace the spirit of giving while also enjoying a fun afternoon of playground games and entertainment.

VOLUNTEER'S MANDATORY COMPLIANCE FOR THE "PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN" PROGRAM

All Catholic Dioceses and Archdioceses have instituted programs whereby they are taking all possible steps to ensure the safety of our children. A very important part of these programs involves doing criminal background checks on all employees and individuals who come in direct contact with our children. All volunteers at St. Francis Xavier are in this category.
We encourage all parents to give serious consideration to completing this program, since only adults who have completed the required components may volunteer in the day school, school of religious education or parish in any way with our children.

The Office for the Protection of Children & Youth has streamlined the registration process and submission of background check for volunteers. Now all parent volunteers (who have not already completed the program)are asked to visit:
http://www.virtusonline.org  where you will register for a Virtus session called Protecting God's Children for Adults. When you do, volunteers will also be asked to submit their background check in the Virtus System that will include these required documents:  Download the DCFS/CANTS form and the Code of Conduct form.  Complete and sign each form and send to Mrs. Peggy Evans at the Main Campus Office. Your registration in the Virtus site will provide information for a background check which you will authorize on the last page.

Step by step instructions for the Virtus site process can be found by clicking this link

Thank you for volunteering your time and talents to St. Francis Xavier School. If you'd like to check your level of completion, please contact Mrs. Evans at either 352-2175 or pevans@sfxlg.org.
