Coronavirus Update - District 23
March 2, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians:

As you likely know, the Centers for Disease Control released a statement recently regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the United States and cases in Illinois.

We are aware that a case of Coronavirus has been confirmed in our area and are closely monitoring details and information being provided by the CDC and other local authorities. We are also in close communication and collaboration with our neighboring districts, which includes District 25 in Arlington Heights.

We have included prevention information in our past two newsletters based upon the recommendations from the Cook County Department of Public Health, Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control. At this time, they suggest continuing all ongoing measures to help prevent the spread of all germs and viruses, including coronavirus. These include:
  • If you are sick or your child is sick, stay at home.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If no soap and water are available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Do not share eating or drinking utensils.
  • Wipe surfaces to remove germ and clean as with washing hands.

We have been collaborating with our partner districts and in communication with the Illinois Department of Public Health and other local and regional agencies. At this time, the Illinois Department of Public Health does NOT recommend the use of masks or gloves, cancelling school or cancelling large gatherings.
Our building custodial teams have continued their preventative cleaning and sanitizing efforts in critical areas across all buildings, in classrooms, handrails, doorknobs, bathrooms, cafeteria surfaces, etc. Additionally, we are increasing the supply of hand sanitizer and cleaning solution across all of our buildings. Please be assured that we will continue to seek guidance from the appropriate agencies and will communicate their recommendations as we work together in the days ahead. Along with our neighboring districts, we are reviewing our plans for school closings only should the need arise.
