Keeping King's Chapel's members and friends connected each week between Sunday worship services with updates from the Parish House.
Spotlight On:
Holy Week and Easter Sunday

Join us the next three days, as we prepare to joyfully celebrate Easter at one united service, on Sunday at 11 AM!

Tonight (Maundy Thursday) we remember how Jesus commanded us to "love one another" as he has loved us, by washing feet like a servant, by allowing even our dirty feet to be washed, and then by receiving wine and bread, shared around a table.

On Friday, we stand in silence at the cross, horrified by how we keep crucifying the Light, unaware of what we're doing, leaving our world to utter darkness.

On Saturday evening the barest flame begins to appear again in the ancient ritual of the sung Easter Vigil service.

The journey is powerful. Come for as much as you can. You'll be surprised.
From The Minister
This is the question they were asked: "Remember when Jesus....?"

According to Luke, that was the question some startled women were asked: on that first Easter morn: "Remember when Jesus....?" It's a pretty good starting place for all of us. What do we remember about the Holy - however you define it or experience it. Do you remember something the Presence of the Love once did in your life, said, or showed you? Have you ever caught a glimpse of this Jesus still alive, a scent peace, the snatch of his tune?

Maybe the way any of us come to understand Easter is the same way those startled women were urged to begin getting their heads around it: Remembering the feeling we once experienced, the warmth we felt, the Light that shone....

On Sunday, we'll celebrate Easter's joy at King's Chapel with full fanfare and flowers. May Easter be blessed for you, wherever you celebrate life and its resurrection.
New Head Usher : Michael Bergeron!

Our Senior Minister Joy Fallon is delighted to announce that Michael Bergeron has accepted the appointment of Head Usher overseeing all of our ushering responsibilities at King's Chapel.  Michael, his wife Pam, and their daughter Caroline have been members of King's Chapel for twenty-four years.  Caroline was raised in church school, and for several years Michael and Pam have been a welcoming presence at our Morning Prayer service as ushers.  Michael was suggested by our last two head ushers, Anne Sexton and Paul Luca.  Our most recent head usher, Paul, served us wonderfully until his recent move to Marlboro prevented him from continuing in this role.
Michael is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for The Center for Life Management in NH, which provides clinical support to many.
Please join me in congratulating Michael when you see him at services this weekend.

You are cordially invited to the 2019 Minns Lectures by Rev. Dr. Colin Bossen, with a special guest lecture by Rev. Carl Scovel.

"American Populism and Unitarian Universalism"

How can Unitarian Universalists respond to populism? Right-wing populism is on the rise, threatening Unitarian Universalist values with its apocalyptic worldview. But left-wing populism has also helped build democratic societies. Rev. Dr. Bossen will challenge us to ask how Unitarian Universalists can respond to populism and white supremacy in the age of Trump.

This year King's Chapel has pledged to be a Peace Advocate, and donate $5,000 to the Louis D Brown  Peace Institute. The Community Action Committee will match all donations made, up to a $2,000 total.  This is the main fundraiser for the Peace Institute, who works with  families and communities impacted by murder, trauma, grief and loss to support   healing, teaching, and learning.
The Kick Off event for the Walk is Wednesday 4/24 at 5:30 PM at 650 Dudley Street in Boston. Be with us to learn more about the Peace Institute and join in community with other organizations as we gear up for the Mother's Day Walk for Peace. More info about the Kick Off event here.
Piano Action - May 12 and June 2

Now that the official Sunday concert season is over for the spring, we are launching a pilot initiative to see if any of you would have interest in attending benefit recitals featuring our lovely new Parish House Steinway piano, given to us by Louise Perkins and her family.

The first of these events will take place on Mother's Day, May 12, from 2-3 pm. It will be a benefit for the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute so an extension, if you will, of the Mother's Day March for Peace that many parishioners are joining earlier that morning. The program will feature a handful of our choir members showing off their more secular side. Heinrich will do his utmost to keep up with them from the piano bench.

On June 2, also at 2 pm, we will have a 4-hand piano recital featuring Robert Winkley from First Church Boston, our friends on the other side of the Common. Once again, Heinrich will do his best to keep up with Robert. This recital will happen in conjunction with the common art show happening at the Parish House that day, featuring art from common cathedral, and all proceeds will benefit their wonderful work.

We hope you will join us for these two events to hear some lovely music and support King's Chapel's social action partners. Donations are entirely free-will, come as you are, give what you can.

Habitat Build Out

King's Chapel is looking for a group of volunteers to help build a house with Habitat for Humanity. The build will take place in the Boston area (likely Dorchester) on Saturday, June 29th from 9:30 AM to 3 PM. There is a suggested $40 donation to Habitat, but anyone is welcome. Contact Emmanuel Genovese for more information or to sign up- (617) 738-6367 or emanuelg1@verizon.net.

Palm Sunday and Bistro 64 Luncheon

Last Sunday was a joyous day of Palm Sunday celebration, followed by a Greek feast at the Parish House. Many thanks to all who prepared our delicious meal of lamb stew and sides; special gratitude for Hospitality Chair Gregg Sorenson, Chef Extraordinaire Dean Lynch, the countless hours given by Cathy Price and Karen Hawthorne, and those who spoke movingly about our special King's Chapel Holy Week services: Cynthia Perkins, Carol Genovese, Tim Nelson-Hoy and Carol Kemp. We also welcomed the Rev. Rali Weaver, our Sabbatical Minister, who greeted old friends and met new ones. We have a wonderful church that gathers as often as we can, breaking bread, learning and caring for each other. What a blessing!

From the Bench

As always, we have wall-to-wall music for you during Holy Week:
Emily Bieber-Harris is the soloist for the Maundy Thursday service of  Holy Communion when she will sing works by Bach and Pinkham.  For the Good Friday noon service, we will have the South Denmark Girls' Choir visit us. The choir is on a tour of Canada and the US, and will sing a prelude starting at 12 noon, as well as  music  during the service.
For the Tenebrae service on Friday at 8, soloists Bryan Wells and Tevan Goldberg will sing Daniel Pinkham's setting of Responses written especially for this service.
The Easter Vigil on Saturday will have our choir singing the customary liturgy inspired by the Orthodox tradition.
On Easter Day, we will have a full house in the organ loft, as the Danish girls' choir returns and joins forces with our choir in works by Biebl and Rutter. Once again they will sing a prelude of Scandinavian  music, starting approximately at 10:45 - so be sure to come to church nice and early!

Accessibility Assists

Our beautiful Georgian sanctuary designed by Peter Harrison and completed in 1754, has been lovingly maintained by the congregation since its completion. One of the box pews has been made wheel-chair accessible. Ushers are available to assist those who are wheelchair-bound to that pew.

A sound system has been installed in the sanctuary of The Chapel to amplify the sound during worship services. Hearing assistance devices are available for your use. Please see an Usher for assistance.
