What:  This week's Member Spotlight features Community Action of Southeast Iowa. Community Action is a private, non-profit agency administering self-sufficiency and emergency assistance programs for the people of Des Moines, Henry, Lee, and Louisa Counties. Programs include Early Head Start, Energy Assistance, Weatherization, Family Development/Self-Sufficiency, Women, Infants and Children (WIC), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Head Start, Early Child Care programs, Medication Assistance Program (MAP), Parents As Teachers, and Food Pantries at our Community Action Centers located in Burlington, Mt. Pleasant, Fort Madison, Keokuk, and Columbus Junction.

What:  The Government Relations Committee would like to gather insight and input from members. Please take a few minutes and respond to the survey here. What:  The 100th Anniversary Annual Dinner of the Greater Burlington Partnership is a great time to showcase your business by donating to the Silent Auction. Businesses that donate to the Silent Auction are recognized in the program and from the podium for their donations. Businesses can donate a basket, products or gift certificates, or a monetary donation for a basket.

Livestrong at the YMCA 
What:  The Burlington Y is running a free program for cancer survivors in the area. Open to adults who have had a cancer diagnosis and are at any stage of recovery and treatment. Specially trained instructors guide participants through areas of exercise, focusing on cardio endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. Classes are held twice per week for 3 months and include a membership to the Burlington Y during the program. Registration is open now until the middle of January 2020.

What:  Jessica Zimmerman was named Employee of the Month at Great River Medical Center. She is a registration clerk at Family Medicine, Mercy.  Zimmerman was nominated for providing exceptional and compassionate care to a patient. Besides bringing him to the correct clinic after he was dropped off at the wrong location, she brought the man lunch from the hospital cafeteria and checked on him during his 2.5-hour wait for a bus to ensure he was comfortable.
