Welcome!

Three new faculty members were welcomed into the E. D. White family at a special presentation after Mass on August 15.  (From left) Samantha Constant, will be joining the math department; Melanie Happel, the science department; and Erin Vaughn, Math and Social Studies.

Constant attended Nicholls State University and obtained a B.S. in Marketing. She taught Geometry and Algebra II at her alma mater, Vandebilt Catholic for 10 years and coached volleyball and softball. "When my husband and I started our beautiful family, I decided to take a step back from coaching to be at home with my two sweet boys," said Constant. "I have always heard wonderful things about E. D. White and the pride the people of Thibodaux have in their school and community. I love my experiences so far with the faculty, staff, and students and am very excited to start this new journey!"

Happel is in her 11th year of teaching.   She began her career teaching kindergarten and then moved to middle school science. She received a B.S. in Education from Nicholls State University in 2007, and has over 30 graduate hours towards a degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Educational Technology. "I am excited about my new adventure at E. D. White, and look forward to experiences in a faith-centered educational environment, "said Happel.

Erin Vaughn, is a Houma native who double majored in Social Studies Education and History at Nicholls State University. "Once I graduated and got married, my husband and I decided to stay in Thibodaux because we loved the community so much. I began my teaching career at Evergreen Junior High and taught there for four years, making this my fifth year of teaching. I am excited that I made the move to E. D. White because I always knew I wanted to come back to Catholic education, having gone to Catholic school my entire life," said Vaughn.

Helping Out Never Tasted so Good

The '68 State Champ Burger is sure to be your new favorite burger and it can be yours starting September 1.

The E. D. White Alumni Association is sponsoring September's "Burger of the Month" at the Alumni Grill in Thibodaux, with 20 percent of total burger sales being donated to school.

The burger is dressed with shrimp in veal stock, grilled onions, pepper jack cheese, and lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun. We promise you will be back for more, it is GOOD!

Fifty years ago, the 1968 Cardinals brought the first football championship ever to Thibodaux by defeating Homer 28-0 with an undefeated season. In honor of our state champs, the name was only fitting.

Teacher Highlight

Sarah Picou Johnson '01 earned a B.S. Degree from Nicholls State University in General Studies and returned for her Educational Certification. She is in her 12th year of teaching with ten years being at E. D. White. She has taught World Geography, P.E., Accounting, Family and Consumer Sciences, while also being Head Volleyball Coach.

"Getting the chance to coach and teach at my alma mater has been a dream come true. E. D. White is my second home, it's more than just a school it's a family and a way of life." said Johnson.

She is married to Henry Johnson Jr., and they are the proud parents of four children: Kiley, 9; Maddox, 7; Finley, 3; and Paxton, 2.

We are looking for alumni updates to put into  the next edition of the Cardinal Courier. If you or  someone you know has recently married, added a new addition to their family, or know of an alum or friend of EDW who has passed, please email Kaye Constant at [email protected].
