Playground Zipline Added to Trailside Park

This week, workers installed a fun, new amenity to Trailside Park, a half-acre park located just north of Richmond Avenue that's part of a 750-foot trail connecting the HCC Campus Trail with Hayes Road.

The ZipKrooz playground zip line will allow children to safely and smoothly glide back and forth along a 30-foot track surrounded by soft mulch. Unlike other playground zip lines, ZipKrooz is a two-way ride, eliminating the need to walk the seat back to start. "It's good exercise and a lot of fun," Louis Jullien, Westchase District's projects director, said. "Plus, there's nothing like it in the area."

Jullien added that the District plans to install a picnic table, fixed seating area and a water fountain in the park before the end of the year, as well as trees and landscaping.

Take GHP Survey: Harvey Business Recovery Outcomes

The Greater Houston Partnership wants to know how your business weathered Hurricane Harvey and you can tell them by taking a brief survey.

The GHP is working with a number of universities from across the U.S. to learn from businesses in communities affected by Harvey. The study will identify effective recovery strategies and how businesses are preparing for the future. A final report will be distributed widely to members to help guide business decisions and public policy.

Support Vendors Who Support Houston

When you shop at the Westchase District Farmers Market, you're supporting local farmers AND you're helping to stimulate Houston's economy. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, farmers market vendors do better per sale than growers who don't sell locally. Farmers see only 17.4 cents of every food dollar spent at grocery stores, versus 90 cents on farm stand sales.

Also, locally-owned retailers, such as farmers markets, return more than three times as much of their sales to the local economy compared to chain competitors. Vendors selling locally create 13 full-time jobs per $1 million in revenue earned. Those not selling locally create 3.

Think Local: Shopping the market is good for you, for local farmers and for Houston.

Ride Bikes, Win Prizes with Cycle September Challenge

As outdoor temperatures begin to cool slightly this month, it's a great time to join Cycle September to help get more people on bikes. It doesn't matter if you ride every day or haven't been on a bike in years, you can ride for fun or transportation any time, anywhere in September to take part.

There will be a friendly competition between workplaces (individuals can take part too) to see which can get the most staff to try riding a bike. Plus there will be prizes for riding and encouraging others, including an annual global prize draw for a trip to New Zealand or the Grand Canyon.
