ARTIST TALK WITH PETER RIVERA @THE RANGE
Artist Talk with Peter Rivera | demonstration of the process
Join us for the Septembers Second Saturday's in Westville for a premier demonstration of works by Peter Rivera, In celebration of his inaugural show opening up at DaSilva Gallery: Opposing forces: Images of Time, Rock, and Release.
"Do not be trapped in here after dark," says the guidebook. Perfect. Over the past 10 years, being off the path in primordial places without wifi has been the preferred mode of subject. For whatever reason, I've been drawn to coordinates where vaster distances beckon beyond a glacier or dormant volcano, where one can almost hear the tick tock of deep geologic time. Very often these places bear a striking resemblance to Mars. For whatever reason, the remote, the humid, the freezing, or the down-right dangerous, have been more stimulating subjects of late. With this in mind these selections have been culled from visits to the streets of India, the remote lava fields of Iceland, the water and wind carved navajo sandstone of the American southwest, and the centuries-weathered monuments of Jordan, to name a few." MARTHA SAVAGE "WORKING TOGETHER"
Acrylic paintings by Martha Savage will be on display at her studio, 909 Whalley Avenue and concurrently at Active Wellness Boutique Fitness, 16 Fountain Street, October 13 and 14, and extended through January at Active Wellness.
Active Wellness and Savage have been engaged in a project over the past 18 months bringing together the processes of rebuilding her health and fitness and recognizing the role of Savage's art along the way. It was obvious to the artist that work stress was having a cumulative negative impact on her health and well being. She engaged in a program with Active Wellness to regain and improve her health. This became a highly collaborative process. The artist brought artwork into the fitness space in two exhibits and has an ongoing collection of cards on display. In this way, the artwork was viewed and contemplated by clients during their sessions. The artist also sketched during a 'Yoga for Compassion' event at Active Wellness, which later became a series of paintings. Art making was a constant throughout this time and it is apparent that working toward health and fitness and the creative process mutually benefited. To RSVP and learn more Click HERE.
