Join the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter and IFMA - St. Louis Chapter
as we dive into why sustainability in facility operations is crucial and how it is possible. The Mastercard Environmental Sustainability team as well as its Facilities team will be leading us through their journey to LEED certification and re-certification. They will also highlight the expansion of solar panels and their carbon-reduction targets.
The event will be held at Mastercard's LEED for Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance (LEED EBOM) Platinum building - the only LEED EBOM Platinum-certified building in the state. After the event, there will be a guided tour of the building led by the Global Sustainability Manager. Food and refreshments will be provided throughout the program.

Exploring Current Advances and Innovation in Water Management and Quality

This full-day program will use case studies to highlight new advancements in strategies and innovative techniques to address water use, management, and quality in a variety of settings.
Bringing together expertise from across the nation and throughout the St. Louis Region, the event will feature national and local success stories and partnerships, infrastructure challenges, considerations for water reuse, and corporate and institutional environmental stewardship efforts.
Keynote Pete A. Munoz will present cutting edge design and engineering for Hassalo on Eighth, a large multi-use residential urban redevelopment project in Portland, Oregon that treats its wastewater for reuse onsite (60,000 gallons per day), redirecting it away from stressed city sewer infrastructure. In addition to exploring real-life innovative solutions, Pete will discuss regulatory barriers and future possibilities for the industry.

School Registration Deadline: September 15, 2018
Mentor Registration is still open!
Since the launch of the Green Schools Quest more than 5 years ago, over 100 schools have participated. School-driven projects have impacted over 100,000 students, teachers, and community members.
As we gear up for the 2018/2019 school year, we are looking for schools and mentors to work with local schools!
Each school will form a Green Team which may be a single classroom, a grade level, an entire school or a student club (Districts are encouraged to register individual schools separately). Each Green Team will select a low or no cost ($250 or less) project to begin October 2018 and conclude on March 10, 2019.
Participating schools will have the opportunity and flexibility to engage in projects fitting their schools' unique needs and resources. Projects must be NEW or MAJOR EXTENSIONS of existing initiatives. Schools may not submit the same project multiple years.

Join the U.S. Department of Education on the 2018 Green Strides Tour, October 24-25th, in
Missouri, with the theme Living School Grounds.
The 2018 tour will showcase work in all three
Pillars of our
U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools recognition award, and, this year, highlight how schools can use their schoolyards that include gardens, habitats, nature trails, and wetlands to engage with not only science, math, nutrition, and agriculture, but also art, literature, and social studies. Through their hands-on, project-based learning, and citizen science on school grounds, students discover the joys of physical activity in the outdoors, as well as the benefits of nutritious, school-garden grown produce. The use of schoolyards, along with other sustainable infrastructure and practices, help students deepen their understanding of the natural world and their connection to it, fostering stewardship values that will permit them to preserve our nation's most precious resources for years to come.

Spire offers 50% Rebate for Building Operator Certification training

The Division of Energy
of the Missouri Department of Economic Development, in cooperation with the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, is providing Building Operator Certification (BOC) training in Missouri with the generous support of Spire Inc.
BOC training includes nearly 74 hours of classroom and project work (7.4 CEUs) in building systems operation and maintenance. Each course in the series is completed in a one day training session. To earn a certificate of completion, participants must pass an exam at the end of each training day and complete five assigned projects. Early registration is encouraged.
REBATE: Upon completion of BOC Level I, students who are customers of Spire will be eligible for a reimbursement of $575.

Learn how marketing energy measures to property owners benefits all involved
Using multiple tracks, the conference is designed for realtors, appraisers, mortgage bankers and energy contractors. Continuing education credits will be offered.
Realtors will learn how promoting energy efficiency of their properties can increase their sales.
Appraisers will learn values of energy measures to include in their property appraisals.
Mortgage bankers will learn how energy measures can make their properties more valuable.
Contractors will learn how to market energy measures to property owners, with a focus on lower utility bills. Attendees will learn about utility incentive and rebate programs, and network with potential business partners.
The Missouri Energy Initiative presents the Midwest Energy Policy Series on Energy Efficiency event in collaboration with the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (MEEA), Missouri Division of Energy and Columbia Water and Light.

As part of MSD Project Clear, MSD's Consent Decree with the Environmental Protection Agency (
EPA), and the Missouri Coalition for the Environment, MSD is committed to spending $100 million in rainscaping investments, with an overall goal of reducing combined sewer overflows to the Mississippi River. MSD seeks to continue to build partnerships with municipalities, local government agencies, schools, community development organizations, and private developers through the Rainscaping Large Scale Grants Program.
The application period is from August 1, 2018 to October 31, 2018.
