Thank You for Shopping Locally and Shopping Lakeview East!
Thank you to all that purchased Lakeview East gift cards during our Annual Shopping Extravaganza sale this past Saturday! We sold nearly $80,000 in Lakeview East Gift Cards in just 4 hours -
that's $80,000 that will go right back into the Lakeview East community to support local businesses.
We appreciate all of those that continue to support small businesses and shop locally, especially in the neighborhood we all know and love. This program has been a success every year thanks to you. Remember, in order for small businesses to be successful, you must shop at them!
|
In regard to recent business closures in the area,
the Chamber reminds our neighbors, families and friends that keeping local businesses in Lakeview East starts and ends with support for local commerce.
The diversity and livelihood of businesses in our neighborhood is directly influenced by consumer spending. When we pass by storefronts, click to buy and prioritize next-day packages, we may be hurting the local business down the block.
As a community, we must make every day Small Business Day by eating, drinking, shopping and getting our services from the hard working entrepreneurs living and working in Lakeview East. We must choose small, local and independent over faster, cheaper and more convenient. W
e must make the choice to close our computers, walk down our main streets and choose to spend at local businesses.
Let's make the new year a year of local love for communities by shopping local and shopping Lakeview East.

We are sad to hear about the passing of Tom Boyle last week, owner of Yesterday Collectibles in Wrigleyville for over 3 decades.
The community lost a gem of a person and we send our condolences to his family.
|
The community is mourning the loss of a dear friend and business owner, Gus Mavragnes from Stella's Diner, who passed away on October 30th. Gus was more than just a caring business owner, he was a friend to us all with the biggest heart for Lakeview and those who lived, worked and visited our neighborhood. He knew everyone that passed by the diner and their kids! Our thoughts and love are with his family during this so difficult time as Gus gets his wings in heaven and finds his latest hot rod to leave a little bit of smoke behind.
We miss Gus dearly and ask you to join us in celebrating his life and all he's done for the Lakeview East Community.
Let's designate Barry Avenue as "Honorary Gus Mavraganes Way"!

Tom Tunney (44th), who represents Boystown. The 2020 Shared Cost Sidewalk Program will open to new applicants starting at 6 a.m. on January 7, 2020 and conclude at 5:59 a.m. on January 8, 2020.
The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program is an extremely popular voluntary program in which property owners share the cost of sidewalk repair with the City. Thousands of Chicagoans have been a part of this popular program, taking advantage of the low cost, exceptional value, and ease of participation. The Shared Cost Sidewalk Program cost per square foot charged to property owners is well below what a private contractor would charge. Senior citizens and persons with disabilities may qualify for a further discounted rate.
Applications will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. The number of participants is based on availability of funds. The program typically reaches capacity quickly, so you are encouraged to apply early.
Please note that if you applied for the program in previous years, you must apply again in 2020 if you wish to be considered for the 2020 program. Applications will only be accepted through the City's 311 system by calling 311 or through the City's service request website 311.chicago.gov. The property owner's contact information and the property address are required at the time of request.
Click on the links below for more information on the program.
As always, residents can report other sidewalk conditions to 311 by phone or via the city website.
