PPAL Offers Training for Emergency Department Professionals
The Program Was Designed to Assist in Caring for Children in Crisis

On Friday, August 3, PPAL was proud to partner with Boston Children's Hospital and members of the Children's Mental Health Campaign to host a training for emergency department personnel. This training was made available to clinicians, nurses, and staff, with the goal of helping them provide better care for children in behavioral health crisis and their families.

Over 100 participants attended this great program, which included six workshops on topics like 51As, cultural responsiveness, and autism spectrum disorders. Each workshop included a PPAL parent facilitator to present the parent and caregiver perspective. In addition, a mother told all attendees a powerful story of her time in the emergency department with her daughter. Joan Mikula, Commissioner of the Department of Mental Health, framed the day with her opening remarks.

We are thrilled that we were able to offer this hands-on training to providers who work with children in behavioral health crisis, and that parents were able to provide their opinion on what works for families in these situations. Our hope is that through trainings like this, we can create lasting partnerships between providers and families to make sure that children, youth, and young adults get the care they need when in crisis in emergency departments.

Youth MOVE Wraps Up Summer
The Group looks to Fall with an Open Art Project and More!

This was a very memorable and eventful summer for our Youth MOVE Young Adults.  First, we would like to offer a big thank you to The Bridge of Central Massachusetts for allowing us to host our annual paid internship for the youth.  Also, we would like to thank everyone behind the scenes as well for giving their best effort to ensure the success of the internship. To celebrate a successful internship, we took all the interns and our closest friends and family to Mystic Aquarium in Mystic Connecticut.

This was a great summer, and as we prepare for the return to school Youth MOVE has a ton of upcoming events to make the transition a little smoother.  The Youth MOVE Hope Group will be welcoming Dave Sebastian for four weeks of an Open Art project, and YAYA group will be advocating and supporting the LGBTQIA2S+ community by actively participating in outreach at Worcester's PRIDE 2018.  If anyone else would like to advocate for equality alongside Youth Movers feel free to join us on September 8th.

Check out what's happening in September with Youth MOVE!
