MHA B4Stage4: Get Informed. Get Screened. Get Help.

When we think about cancer, heart disease, or diabetes, we don't wait years to treat them. We start way before Stage 4. We begin with PREVENTION.  When people are in the first stage of those diseases and have a persistent cough, high blood pressure, or high blood sugar, we try immediately to reverse these symptoms. This is what we should be doing when people have serious mental illnesses, too.

Your Vote Counts!

Early voting has started and we know the options on your ballot can seem overwhelming. That's why we've created a voter guide to ensure you can make the most informed decisions on election day!  Find voter guide  here

OCTOBER IS:

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Take A Stand  is a call to action meant to bring attention to the issue of domestic violence for Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) and throughout the year.  By taking a stand we intend to remind the nation that there are still countless people--victims and survivors, their children and families, their friends and family, their communities--impacted by domestic violence.  We, all of us, should not stop until society has zero tolerance for domestic violence and until all victims and survivors can be heard.  Looking for ideas on how to spend Domestic Violence Awareness Month?

National Bullying Prevention Month

Bullying can threaten students' physical and emotional safety at school and can negatively impact their ability to learn. The best way to address bullying is to stop it before it starts. There are a number of things school staff can do to make schools safer and prevent bullying. Training school staff and students to prevent and address bullying can help sustain bullying prevention efforts over time. There are no federal mandates for bullying curricula or staff training. Here are some examples of options schools can consider.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The physical and mental health of cancer patients needs to be addressed not only during active treatment but also throughout the continuum of survivorship care. This commentary provides an overview of issues pertinent to cancer survivors, with an emphasis on mental health issues and recommendations for annual clinical screening and monitoring using recently published guidelines from the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Expected Drop in ACA Health Insurance Premiums

A lot of Arizonans looking to buy health insurance will get good news this fall.  According to a   new analysis, health insurance premiums in the Arizona Marketplace are expected to drop by 4 percent, making our state one of only eleven forecast to see a drop.  The Affordable Care Act (ACA), popularly known as Obamacare, has seen an overall slowdown in premium rate increases nationally. For Arizona, this decrease is a major turnaround and in sharp contrast to 2017 when we received national attention for having the highest price jump in the nation.

Nine out of ten Arizonans receive assistance from the federal government in paying ACA insurance premiums, which remain largely unaffordable for those who earn too much to qualify for assistance.
Before you vote on or before November 6, ask your candidates where they stand on making the health care marketplace weaker or stronger.  Click here to type in your zip code and find out who the candidates for Congress are in your district and how you can contact them.

" My experience with the Arizona Institute for Healthcare Leadership was tremendous in a lot of ways.  It helped me grow as a leader in better understanding how to leverage my strengths, collaboration, strategic thinking and developing talent.  Learning about healthcare advocacy was an eye-opener. Project development, completion and presentation was a great collaborative process on multiple levels. Overall, I do believe the program has made me more rounded as a leader and was a good foundation in my continued healthcare leadership journey."
Vice President, Operations

"The content of this course has proven very valuable. It helped me to become more cognizant of how emotional intelligence influences my approach to the work, and the positions I pursue.  It provided tools and resources that are helpful in dealing with situations ranging from normal every day events, navigating an organization through crisis situations, and managing a multi-generational workforce. The ability to apply what I learned in this program to real-time, real-world scenarios led to my getting a promotion to a larger, more complex organization.  I strongly encourage participation in this program."  - Supervisory Health System Specialist
