Weekly enews
Dear St. Giles Families,

In a special enews broadcast, we shared information regarding the 5 Essentials Survey given by the Archdiocese of Chicago. They worked with the University of Chicago to adapt the 5 Essentials survey given in public schools to include Catholic Identity. This survey has been given to all teachers, parents of students in Prek-12th grade, and students in 4th - 12th grade. Participation is voluntary and will provide feedback for all schools individually and the Archdiocese as a whole.

The survey is the Climate, Culture, and Catholic Identity Survey. Please see the attached parent letter for further explanation and the participation link. The survey is now open and the students have been completing it with Mr. Patterson during Tech class. We value your input and ask you to take some time to complete the survey. Right now we are at 9% parent participation and will need 20% for a parent report and 50% in order to receive a full data report. Results from the survey help guide our school improvement plan for next year. Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback!

I hope everyone has registered for our Black and Gold and will be joining us virtually next Saturday, March 13th at 7:00 pm. Kelly Richard and our Development Committee have been working hard on what will be a wonderful celebration of A Year Like No Other, honoring our faculty and staff and celebrating our successes this year. You can find more information about Black and Gold on our website. Auction items, including those made by our Lions, have been and will be updated so keep coming back. Reminder: there is no school on Monday, March 15th.

Stay warm and well,
Meg

Reminder
Please review the St. Giles Uniform Code 2021-22, paying close attention to our policy regarding hair style/length and shoes. If haircuts are needed, please try to schedule those soon! Scroll down through enews for information about Schoolbelles inventory and their upcoming sale.

Hair: The student’s hair must be neat, clean, and well-groomed. Hair must be of one’s face and out of one’s eyes. Unnaturally colored, severe, bizarre, and extreme styles are not acceptable. Boys’ hair may only extend to the top of the collar and to the ear lobe on the sides.

Shoes: Students wear backed, solid, neutral-colored dress shoes. Shoelace shoes must have tied shoelaces, and students are not permitted to walk on the back of their shoes. Gym shoes are permitted on P.E. days only.

Archdiocese Travel Guidance Update
The Archdiocese provided updated information regarding quarantine restrictions due to travel in last week’s Parent Newsletter. If you are traveling to either an orange or red state at any time, especially during Easter Break, a 10 day quarantine is required, regardless of a negative COVID test. The city of Chicago and Cook County update the travel restrictions weekly. Please check this website for current restrictions. Close exposure quarantines remain at 14 days.
Black & Gold is less than a week away!
Black & Gold Pride is less than a week away! We hope you're planning to tune in to the livestream next Saturday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. on YouTube for a fun hour hosted by Fr. Carl, Meg Bigane and Kathy Lofgren and filled with student videos, photos, a live Paddle Raise and more. Check out this special message below from our hosts.

Don't forget to register on Handbid!
By now, you should have received details on how to register for Black & Gold via Handbid -- the fundraising platform where you can buy Grand Opportunity and Great Tuition Giveaway tickets, donate to our paddle raise, and bid on auction items. Don't miss your chance to give back to the school that's given so much to us AND take home exciting auction items.

We have a goal to get EVERY St. Giles School family registered on Handbid before Saturday, March 13 and we're announcing a contest to get you motivated! The first homeroom room from each unit -- PreK, Primary, Intermediate and Middle School -- that has every family registered for Black & Gold will receive a pizza party (or a special morning snack party for preschool). So take a few minutes now, head to Handbid, register...and help your Lion score a slice!
A familiar Oak Park River Forest based resource has received a website make over worth exploring its features. FRED is a free and independent peer support group for parents and caregivers of children, teens, and young adults with mental illness for anyone in the Chicago region. Since 2007, FRED has empowered parents to navigate the often-bewildering mental health system and better advocate for their children. FRED eases isolation and offers shared knowledge, skills, confidentiality, and the support of other parents who truly understand. In addition to twice monthly zoom meetings there is a free members only area similar to an online forum site where members may post questions and receive a variety of answers from experienced parents.
PreK 3 and PreK 4 Virtual Tours and Conversation

Do you have a new PreK 3 or PreK 4 student joining us next year? Mark your calendar for either March 9th or March 25th at noon for a virtual tour and information session led by Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Rominski! Our teachers will take new and prospective families through our early childhood facility, answering questions and showing how we prepare our littlest Lions for their next steps at St. Giles School. Registration can be found here.

If you know someone interested in St. Giles School for PreK, please invite them to join one of our tours to learn more. Limited spots are available for 2021-2022. Please share the virtual tour registration form found here.
