Between June and August, we had over 50 middle school volunteers help in the Youth Department! We are very grateful, and we appreciate the time you spent helping with book displays, preparing for programs, and making our department look clean and orderly! Beginning this month, we will refer to our middle school volunteers as The Middle Squad.
It's a new school year: Be prepared!
- Get Involved - With a wide variety of school activities to discover, pursue the ones that you like and the ones that will provide a challenge. Getting involved is also a great way to make new friends. Don't forget to check out volunteer opportunities in your community.
- Be Organized - It's important to be on time and know where to go. Have a calendar that's easy to access to help you keep track of events. Share your calendar with the right grownups, so they know where you are.
- Concentrate - Focusing all your attention throughout the school day is a challenge. Avoid distractions such as electronic devices. Try not to be overly talkative at the beginning of a class or activity.
- Stay Happy - Having a positive attitude is easier than having a negative one. When you meet new friends, it's ok to feel shy. Ask open ended questions like, What book are you reading? Where's one place in the world you want to visit? Be supportive by cheering for teammates and giving excited encouragement!
