Good Afternoon Residents -
I hope this newsletter finds you healthy after Tropical Storm Isaias whipped through Orangetown on Tuesday afternoon. While many residents, including myself, are still without power (3,048 of us as of Friday morning) and are getting more frustrated by the day, please remember that some residents suffered serious property damage, including two house fires in Orangetown, and that there were 9 confirmed U.S. deaths due to this devastating storm.
I think by now most of us realize that Orange and Rockland did not adequately prepare for the storm, made worse by a lack of communication or ability to give reliable restoration information, especially in regards to our senior communities. As a result, the five Town Supervisors sent a joint letter to the President of Orange and Rockland expressing our mutual concerns and demanding answers, followed up with a joint conference call with a representative of Governor Cuomo's staff, where we presented our complaints and asked the Governor for help getting answers.
Despite O&R’s failed response, I witnessed neighbors helping neighbors – from lending unused generators to offering up free refrigerator space. Please continue to do so and know that the Town is here to help in any way that it can.
Yours truly -

Collection for School Taxes
|
|
Due to COVID, our Town Clerk is urging everyone to pay their taxes by mail or on-line. They are doing their best to keep residents and their staff as safe as possible.
The Town of Orangetown Tax Office collects School taxes for the Pearl River, South Orangetown, Nyack and Nanuet School Districts.
The fiscal period for School taxes is July 1st to June 30th. School tax bills are mailed in early September. Their due date is September 30th, as specified on the bill. After September 30th, a 5% penalty is due until the end of the collection, which is usually October 31st. If ending date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a legal holiday, it goes to the next business day.
All unpaid school bills are turned over to the Rockland County Commissioner of Finance in New City. They may be paid at the County until the re-levy date. After that date, all unpaid bills are re-levied on the following Property Tax Bill with a 7% penalty plus interest.
