LSU EMBAs Culminate Experience with Capstone Trip to Europe

The LSU Executive MBA class within the Flores MBA program at the E. J. Ourso College of Business is wrapping up the 17-month educational experience with a capstone trip framed around the geopolitical dynamics of Brexit, giving the students an excellent opportunity to connect and engage business leaders and politicians in London and Dublin to discuss the Brexit framework and the challenges and consequences of leaving the European Union.

While in Europe, the class will assess and understand macro- and microeconomic activities around real-world events, examine the consequences of leaving the EU on capital markets and institutions and analyze the human capital dynamics around operations and strategic decisions.

LSU Professor closely connected with 2019 Nobel Prize winners

The Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences was awarded Monday, October 14, 2019, to Abhijit Banerjee (MIT), Esther Duflo (MIT), and Michael Kremer (Harvard) for their “experimental approach to alleviating global poverty.” The three researchers study problems like education deficiencies and child health scientifically and the research conducted by this year’s Laureates have considerably improved our ability to fight global poverty. In just two decades, their new experiment-based approach has transformed development economics, which is now a flourishing field of research. They break issues into smaller questions, search for evidence about which interventions work to resolve them and seek practical ways to bring those treatments to scale.

Dan Keniston, associate professor in the LSU Department of Economics, is a frequent co-author with 2019 Nobel Prize winners Banerjee and Duflo.

MBA and Finance Professor pens his first fiction novel

Don Chance, James C. Flores Endowed Chair of MBA Studies and professor of finance at the E. J. Ourso College of Business, is a well-published author of peer-reviewed research articles and textbooks. But it was his third cancer diagnosis that led him into the world of fiction writing.

For a year or two, the same story kept running through his head. Storylines with twists and turns would occupy his thoughts late at night. It wasn’t until he was out with some fellow professors that he mentioned what he had been thinking and they encouraged him to write it down.

2019 Entrepreneurship Fellows seek Experience and Networks

To be a successful entrepreneur, one must have a passion for learning – from customers, employees and even competitors. Entrepreneurship is seeing an opportunity and gathering the resources to turn a possibility into a reality. It represents the freedom to envision something new and to make it happen. It includes risk, but it also includes the reward of creating a legacy.

The LSU Stephenson Department of Entrepreneurship & Information Systems offers the Entrepreneurship Fellows Program: a yearlong program fosters entrepreneurial-minded students by providing an intensive, high-quality educational experience to a select cohort of undergraduate and graduate students at LSU

I hope to do something involving the business side of the sports universe and eventually start my own business. I would like to see college athletes get financially compensated, along with an education, for all the revenue they generate for universities.

LSU Alumni Turned Full-Time Chocolatiers

The sheer joy on someone’s face when they bite into artisan chocolate from Zocalisa Fine Chocolates is the most enjoyable thing about being chocolatiers for Jeff and Alissa Dickey, longtime Louisiana residents and LSU alumni.

While the two both had previous careers in different industries, the Dickeys were inspired to join the chocolate industry from a trip to Central America, where they found native cacao trees.

Alissa finished in 1979 in business administration. She went on to earn her doctorate from LSU in management information systems in 2001.
