Budget Speech Highlights
 
Finance Minister Carole James delivered the provincial budget in the legislature Tuesday. Minister James announced a surplus in the current fiscal year of $203 million, with projections of modest surpluses between $179 and $374 million over three years. The budget provided updates on cannabis revenue and expenditure projections, increased funding for wildfire and emergency response and an operational reduction for the office of the Auditor General for Local Government. Provincial Responses to 2019 UBCM Resolutions 
 
Provincial responses to the resolutions from the 2019 UBCM Convention are now available. UBCM is also providing correspondence to the sponsors of each resolution to share the relevant provincial response. Read more
Pathways to Collaboration Case Study
 
The Squamish Nation and District of Squamish have worked towards a collaborative relationship, formalized in a Co-operation Protocol Agreement and carried forward in a community forest initiative. Theirs is one of the stories featured in Pathways to Collaboration, a project to showcase the growing number of successful economic development collaborations and partnerships between First Nations and local governments in BC.

Rail Safety Funding
 
Local governments are invited to attend a Transport Canada information session about the Rail Safety Improvement Program (RSIP). This federal program provides grant funding to improve railway crossings so that the crossings meet the requirements of the Rail Safety Grade Crossings Regulations (GCR). Read more
