Harold "Bubba" Kunz
January 1, 1934 - August 24, 2018
Harold H. Kunz , Jr (Bubba) was a great man, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 24th, 2018.  He was a New Year's Day baby born in 1934 in Laredo, Tx. He was passionate about all the things he loved but especially his beautiful, devoted wife and caretaker of 28 years, Lois Lundschen Kunz.
 
Together they shared 6 children. Judy Kunz Cooney married to Mike Cooney, Kay Kunz Ward, Patty Kunz Sylvester, Jo Anna Lynn Lundschen Caskey married to Dave Caskey, Lloyd Lundschen, and Leah Lundschen Moy married to Jimmy Moy. The love continues with 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
 
Bubba was a consummate entrepreneur even from the age of 8. He helped his dad level houses, and install doors and windows. He trapped and skinned possums and raccoons then delivered them to the local neighbors on his bicycle with the meat wrapped in wax paper. He raised rabbits and sold them to the then new Brooke aerospace for testing purposes.
 
Bubba loved sports and was an incredible athlete playing varsity football and baseball at Central Catholic High School graduating in 1952. He continued playing baseball on scholarship at St. Mary's University, then semi pro baseball. His love of baseball continued as he coached many baseball and softball teams of his girls over the years. He was a dedicated father transporting and attending all of his daughter, Kay's swimming practices and meets. He continued to be a dedicated and avid sports fan by attending many of his grandchildren's volleyball, basketball, softball, baseball, football games and FFA goat shows!
 
Bubba was a bricklayer for 8 years then went into business with his dad forming Kunz Construction Company in 1962. Some of his well known construction projections in San Antonio are Renovation of the Municipal Auditorium in 1984, Hemisphere Park, many UT and UTSA projects, SWTSU football stadium, many NEISD and NISD schools and Main Plaza. He was a well known and respected business man in the construction industry for 50 years. His word was his bond. He was a member of Associated General Contractors ( AGC) and served as their president in 1988 and 1989. The Municipal Auditorium project won the AGC Outstanding Project of the Year in 1985. The Main Plaza project won the same Outstanding Project of the Year in 2008.
 
He was an avid hunter and sportsman which led him to purchasing his beloved Kunz ranch in Comfort, Texas in 1982. He loved his polled Hereford cattle and working on the fences besides the hunting or fishing in his 2 tanks. He shared his beautiful ranch with all of his family and friends by hosting birthday, 4th of July , Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. He shared his love of hunting and fishing with his 3 daughters by taking them on hunting and fishing trips. He also enjoyed hunting in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Mexico.
 
Bubba enjoyed traveling especially cruises. He visited many places around the world including the Baltic's, Australia, England , Italy, Scotland, South America, the Panama Canal, Alaska and all over the United States.
 
Bubba was a devout Catholic who was involved in every parish where he lived (St. Gregory's, St. Luke's, St. Mark's, Notre Dame, and Sacred Heart) either serving on committees, donating stain glass windows or building baseball fields, bell towers, other church facilities and catechism halls. He was an Alhambra member and served as their president in 1975. He was an ACTS member and involved in many of the retreats after attending his first retreat in 2000.
 
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bubba's honor to: Norte Dame Catholic School, Our Lady of the Hills Catholic High School, St. Vincent de Paul or any other charity of your choice.
 
The family will receive friends at Grimes Funeral Chapel, 728 Jefferson Street, Kerrville, Texas, on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 starting at 5:30 pm, with a Rosary to start at 7 pm. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 909 Main Street, Kerrville, Texas, 78028, at 2 pm, with Fr. David Wagner, Celebrant.
