A Seed of an Idea That Will Sprout Soon
|

We are excited to announce an addition to the school library! We are starting a
Seed Library
where the community can find seeds to grow at home. We are beginning small with just sunflower microgreens because those can be grown indoors at any time of year with minimal light. Our intention is to expand the Seed Library to include varieties of organic seeds that gardeners can bring to flower - and then participants will return seeds they grow and create a closed-loop system.
We will host an event to discuss the Seed Library on Friday, March 20, at 8:30am in the school library. Join us, let's grow!

Singing Workshop at WWS
TONIGHT - Wednesday, Feb 19 from 7-8:30pm
Christiaan Boele, a leading teacher in the Werbeck singing method, is returning to the Washington Waldorf School this winter. He is offering a 90-minute-long workshop and has time that day for a limited number of 45-minute-long private lessons. First come, first served. The location of the 5 morning slots are TBD. The 3 afternoon slots will be at WWS.

Black History Month Performances
The WWS Music Department invites you to join us
every Wednesday in February in the foyer from
8:05-8:25 for special jazz (and jazz related) performances in celebration of Black History Month. You'll hear performances from our talented students, parents, and faculty.

Day of the Languages - **NEW DATE**
Thursday, Feb 27, 1-3pm
Against all odds and with performers back to full health, our Day of the Languages celebration will happen on Thursday 2/27, starting at 1pm.
As in previous years, the afternoon will be filled with skits performed in German or Spanish, music, dance, clowning and singing. Parents are invited to watch and at times encouraged to participate in this unique event where students are in charge. They will push the limits of farce, humor, and emotional expression beyond the ordinary. That is why only 7th grade students and up attend this show. The Day of the Languages does not aim to be a perfect display of linguistic and acting skills but rather to be an opportunity to venture in the world of languages in various ways, and to take a leap of faith for the delight of others.

Thank you to Jack Petrash and all the parents who came out to hear Jack speak about his book “Understanding Waldorf Education” on February 1st. We will meet again on Saturday, February 29 from 9:30-11am to continue our conversation. This book explains Waldorf education in a very accessible way and sharing with other parents provides support for parents in the community. Come join us to connect and meet other parents. Copies of the book can be ordered online or checked out from the WWS library. Parents from Acorn Hill, Potomac Crescent, and outside of WWS are warmly welcomed.

Have you been to Glenstone?

On January 23rd, our senior class enjoyed a trip the Glenstone Museum in Potomac, MD as part of their "History Through Architecture" main lesson block. Last year WWS Parent, Anja Caldwell arranged passes for the seniors to visit. Impressed by the collection and architecture, Barb Bancroft decided to return with this year's senior class.
A few things to know about visiting Glenstone.
- Admission is free
- Visitors must be 12 or older
- Tickets are made available 3 months out and go quickly. You'll see that a few are available through the end of April. Tickets for May go on sale on March 1st at 10am.

Faculty Appreciation Luncheon - Friday, February 28
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Dear Parents,
Once a year, WWS families honor our hard-working, dedicated and beloved faculty and staff by offering them a delicious luncheon.
This year's luncheon will be held next week on Friday, Feb 28th in the school library.
It’s a lovely event where we get to thank our faculty with our home made dishes. Please let your Class PO Rep or your POSC (
posc@washingtonwaldorf.org
) know
the dish you will bring so we can keep track!
Suggested courses:
- Children's Garden: Desserts (i.e. baked goods, truffles, chocolate bars, fruit salad)
- Grades 1-2: Appetizers, each serving 8-10 people (i.e. samosas, pirogues, sushi, crab rolls, shrimp cocktail, hummus, terrine, dumplings, crostini, etc.)
- Grades 3-4: 5 Salads (2 grain or other starch, 1 vegetable, 2 green salads)
- Grade 5: Flower arrangements (1 large and 5 smaller arrangements for the tables)
- Grades 6, 7 & 8: 8 Entrees each serving 8-10 people, served at room temperature or in a crockpot (i.e. stews and soups in a crockpot, sandwiches, wraps, quiche, risotto, carved roast meat, etc.)
- High School: Desserts and cold drinks (i.e. baked goods, truffles, chocolate bars, fruit salad, Italian sodas, sparkling water, etc.)
The main way to help out and thank our faculty and staff is by cooking and bringing a dish for the luncheon .
If you ALSO want to come see the feast and help out that morning or at lunch this is a great and easy event for volunteering. We have a lot of fun setting up, arranging the room and dishes, and getting to witness the faculty and staff enjoying themselves!
