Jeffco Staff and Students Awarded Funds to See Projects Through
Now in its third year, the Jeffco Innovation Acceleration Fund (JIAF) offers the opportunity for staff - and new this year, students too (!) - to apply for funds to make their innovative project ideas come alive. The JIAF proposes entrepreneurial efforts as a way to “keep the main thing the main thing,” and the main thing is Learning. This fund offers an incentive for staff and students to present innovative ways to improve Learning, Conditions for Learning, and Readiness for Learning for Jeffco students; it encourages the organizational value of “Entrepreneurial Spirit.” Read all about it here , and check out the list of staff and student winners! Jeffco Talent Comes Alive: Spring Musicals Are Here!
Spring is the time to highlight creativity in Jeffco...it's musical season! Most Jeffco high schools have a program scheduled, and a couple middle schools too. We have such a range of programming this year with The Little Mermaid, Young Frankenstein, Les Miserables, Little Shop of Horrors, West Side Story, and Newsies , just to name a few! Take a look at the schedule and stop by for some top-notch entertainment. Interested in a look behind the scenes, where students are rehearsing building sets? Warren Tech Acres Off and Running With the Coming of Spring
Students in the Acres program have entered the busy season. Agriculture mechanics, trellising technique, pruning, incubating, microorganisms, soil, greenhouse entomology, pests, arborist skills, seeding, ag business, inspections...so much to do this time of year! So many things to see on their Instagram page - talk about real-life learning and authentic experience! Really, check out what they are doing...an amazing program for Jeffco students.
First Place for Alameda Student's Bilingual Essay
Gladis Mondragón, junior at Alameda International Jr./Sr. High has been awarded 1st place for her essay , "Proud to Be Bilingual," by the Colorado Association for Bilingual Education (COCABE)! A statewide contest, Ms. Mondragón's essay was chosen out of 113 entries. Gladis read her winning essay (in Spanish) at an the awards ceremony and received a standing ovation. She will read her essay one more time on 4/29 at Jeffco's all-ESL staff meeting. See the great news here .
AWest Future Health Professionals Complete Real-Life Task
Career readiness taking place front and center at Arvada West High. Students in the HOSA Future Health Professionals Club piloted a Community Health Now! Career Ready Performance Task, where students investigate a major healthcare issue affecting their community together with an industry partner - in this case National Jewish Health. Read more about how Jeffco students are contributing to the education of others in programs like this across the country.
