Dean's Message
I hope you were as inspired and energized by Majora Carter's visit as I was! Her visit was a reminder of the power each of us hold to affect environmental justice. Each of the disciplines in this College is preparing you with the knowledge to improve peoples' lives through the environments we all inhabit. It is in your hands to use that knowledge and make a difference.
Join us at noon on Wednesday (beginning in the Link) for a bit of information and a lot of ice cream, as well as an opportunity to mingle and learn more about the student organizations in the College. I challenge you to join at least one of the organizations and give it a try for the year - and make a difference!

The First week of Fall 2018 is complete! I hope you have all settled back into the “student life routine.” It was great to have the building buzzing with the energy and life that all of you students bring.
We have a lot of great projects in the Interior Design Program that are underway in our studio sequence. Second-year students have hit the ground running and are doing rigorous exercises in the orthographic representation and analysis of interior built environment precedents.

A major perk of being a program director is meeting students. This week I met some amazing individuals, like Ezra Young, president of the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA); Jiaqi (Max) Luo, an international undergraduate student from Zhejiang University City College in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China; and the M.Arch thesis students. Speaking with them about their future goals and aspirations has been an inspiring experience, and reminded me that the education of an architect is full of exciting possibilities.

COMMUNITY AND REGIONAL PLANNING

What did you do this past summer?
As we reconnect with our classmates and colleagues on campus each fall semester, we are sometimes amazed to learn about the interesting times that our friends have experienced over the summer months.
For example our second-year Master of Community and Regional Planning (MCRP) student had an interesting summer experience. Taylor Cook came to the MCRP degree program with a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography from UNL, with minors in political science and community and regional planning.

It is official. This week we received the official notification from the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board that the Landscape Architecture Program has received a full six year reaccreditation. We also received a clean sheet with no “‘recommendations affecting accreditation”. This is a strong acknowledgement that our program is on firm ground and doing all the things that are expected from a program designed to educate future landscape architects. Everyone associated with this effort, faculty, students and alumni, should feel a great deal of satisfaction from this result.
