Promoting the public power perspective

Our Strategic Plan calls on NEPPA to, "actively promote the public power perspective to regional and national policymakers." To accomplish this objective, we have focused on two key strategies: (1) to coordinate regional and national advocacy efforts and (2) to lead by example. In February, we realized these strategies by organizing meetings on Capitol Hill for more than 20 public power professionals and by adding an EV to the NEPPA fleet of vehicles.  More

Customer Service Leadership program heads to Conn.

It's not too late to register for NEPPA's Customer Service Leadership program to be held in Connecticut this spring.
 
The two-day certificate program is set for May 17-18 at Norwich Public Utility's Customer Service Center, 173 North Main St., Norwich, Conn. Cost is $450 for NEPPA members; $675 for non-members.
 
Created for public power professionals and led by experienced instructor Rockie Blunt, the program focuses on the knowledge and techniques needed to serve customers confidently and professionally with topics such as:
 
* Customer expectations
* Assertiveness and professional language
* Nonverbal communication
* Unexpected situations and negative news
* Complaints and intense situations
* Different personalities and generations

Be part of the Step Up for Colleen 5K
Here's your chance to participate in the 4th Annual Step Up for Colleen 5K, set for Sunday, May 7 in Andover, Mass. The event honors the memory of beloved teacher Colleen Ritzer, with proceeds benefiting college scholarships for those planning a teaching career. Since its inception, the Colleen E. Ritzer Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $86,000 to 30 deserving students.
 
Each year, the Step Up for Colleen 5K attracts thousands of walkers and runners of all ages, creating a "sea of pink," which was Colleen's favorite color. The USA Track & Field certified course runs through the characteristically New England streets of Andover.
 
"We want to carry on Colleen's legacy of 'kindness and good'," said Brian Feeney of Century Bank, the event's title sponsor and NEPPA affiliate member. Customer Service Conference is June 7

John Clark retires from Houlton Water Co.

John Clark of the Houlton, Maine Water Company, retired February 21 after more than 32 years as the utility's General Manager.
 
An active member and strong supporter of NEPPA, he was honored in 1996 with the NEPPA Service Award for "significant contributions to the Association."
 
Greg Sherman has been promoted to General Manager, becoming just the fifth person named to head the utility since its founding in 1880. Sherman was most recently HWC's Assistant General Manager.
 
According to Sherman, Clark's retirement plans include spending time with his three grandchildren, skiing, golfing, and spending summers at his lakeside camp. He'll also be working in his newly built woodworking shop, perfecting his skills and completing projects with his 94-year-old father.

Braintree, Mass. Electric Light Department is featured in the February 2017 issue of Transmission and Distribution World magazine, in a story that identifies the utility as a leader in implementing emerging grid technologies.
