IISE Kansas chapters brewed up a powerful potion of activities for inaugural pop-up conference
Mixing ingredients of
excellent tours, insightful presentations, delicious food, beautiful facilities, camaraderie, swag, beer - Ian Giese, organizer of the first ever Kansas Pop-up Conference, cast a spell for success over the event!
Attendees departed from the conference venue (
Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia, Kansas)
to
Hill's Pet Nutrition and Simmons Pet Food for overviews of their operations and tours of their plants. Flint Hills Technical College
is yet another example of the growing trend of distributing industrial system engineering and engineering technology education from major universities to localized technical colleges -- something from which all of industry and academia have gained benefit!
In the words of president of Wichita chapter,
John Huffman, "Of all the things I have been able to be a part of in my 28 years as a member of IIE/IISE, this has been my favorite. I hope we have set the stage for an annual event, and more importantly, a continuous partnership towards advancing Industrial and System Engineering in Kansas."

The conference featured overviews of the chilling successes and challenges realized by Kansas chapters. Chapter presidents raised many opportunities for
teaming
that can help them advance chapters and the ISE profession in Kansas and the rest of the region. In the spirit of the event, many attendees signed up for follow-up committee efforts!

IISE supports Future City Competition
Forty-five thousand students around the world in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades work in teams with an educator and STEM mentor to imagine, design, and build
cities of the future. Along the way, they learn about engineering and city design, develop their writing and public speaking skills, and apply math.
After the competition is over, student participants are not only prepared to be citizens of today's complex and technical world, they are poised to become the drivers of tomorrow.
IISE financially supports the IISE Award for Systems Integration. And the IISE National Capital (DC) chapter yearly represents the Institute by providing judges for the International Future City Competition.

- The All Ohio Dinner Meeting was held on Oct.16 in Plain City, Ohio. It was hosted by Dayton- Cinncinati chapter. Featured speaker was Michael Giuliano. He started his career at tech-giant Intel Corporation earning distinct engineering honors spanning some of the highest-profile product launches on record in the digital and mobility spaces.
- On Sept. 25 Iowa State University chapter hosted BOEING! Members learned about the company and asked questions. Iowa State will also be hosting the 2020 North Central Regional Conference, giving the chapter an exciting opportunity to showcase its strong member support.

Joint collaboration meeting - ASQ and IISE Louisville chapters
IISE Louisville and ASQ Louisville chapters held a joint collaboration chapter
meeting in September. The speaker was Kerry Wang, Intelligent Automation Center of Excellence Leader, Humana. His topic was
Robotics Process Automation (RPA)
with an overview of intelligent automation, machine learning and artificial intelligence. The meeting took place at the Cardinal Hall of Fame Cafe.
