Give More Living, Less Stuff this Year

Many of us are experiencing a growing desire to save our planet and become more eco-friendly, but aren't sure how to do it in everyday practice. Adjusting your holiday gift-giving to include more experiences and less stuff is a wonderful way to do just that!  Here are some of our favorite clutter-neutral gifts for this season.

Skillshare's website hosts teachers from around the world, offering a diverse array of online classes. With subjects ranging from an intro to Photoshop skills, launching a freelance business model, and making the perfect pickle, odds are you'll find something they'll love. You can buy a subscription for your loved one, which costs $8.25 per month, or you can simply purchase a gift card

Give the gift of the great outdoors! This National Parks pass offers access to all 59 national parks across the country, and it includes entry for the pass holder plus up to three accompanying adults age 16 and older (no entry fee charged for children 15 and under). Please note: you will not be able to download the pass, it will be mailed to you, so make sure you get it set up in time to receive it.

Hello Fresh - $24 - $110
Hello Fresh is a meal kit service that delivers recipes and pre-measured ingredients to your door. This Groupon lets you sign up for one or two weeks of food for up to four people. A great gift for busy parents who still want to eat fresh and healthy meals.

Gifts of Service  - $0 and up
Be it a session or two with a professional organizer (see below for our gift certificate printout), professional house cleaning, or something more indulgent like massage or spa treatments, gifts of service can be some of the most useful AND appreciated. Working on a budget? Take advantage of your own skills - offers of your time and expertise are just as valuable.

Gifts of Giving
Donating to a cause or group in your family or friends' name is a great way to spread to joy others in need. UNICEF, Heifer International, and Red Cross are all great organizations to check out.

Cooking Classes at Sur La Table - $69
Sur La Table offers cooking classes at their stores nationwide. These intimate, hands-on classes are offered for a variety of skill levels and last for 2 - 2.5 hours each. For classes in your area, search via their website location finder.

How to Create a Reverse Advent Calendar
by Veronica Bishop

As you know, I have spoken extensively here on the blog about the need to teach our kids to let go of toys and games that they have lost interest in or outgrown. Here at Organizers Northwest, we believe that the art of benevolence must be modeled and practiced in order to be truly learned. This not only benefits the recipients of donated toys and items, but also profits our own children as we teach them the skill of letting go and decluttering.

This knowledge is especially useful during the holidays when children receive so many new gifts.  So it was with glee that I came across this super fun gem of an activity:  A Reverse Advent Calendar! Here's how to do it.
