Minnesota Vikings Host 2nd Annual
Team Up To Give Back Event with BGCTC

More than 200 volunteers from the Minnesota Vikings and U.S. Bank teamed up on May 29 to clean, paint, organize, and assemble furniture at the Southside Village Club in preparation for a busy summer. Players packed 35,000 meals assisted by 100 Club members from the neighborhood Green Central Park Elementary School. The meals will be distributed to families in need through BGCTC Clubs and at upcoming National Night Out events.
Mission Moon Showcase

Two months ago, Club members ages 7-12 from the Jerry Gamble, Southside Village, East Side, and Mt. Airy Clubs began an 8-week Sea Research Foundation STEM Mentoring module, Mission Moon. Two to four teams from each Club, mentored by adult community members, created an imaginary moon base using robotic LEGOs to simulate a sustainable environment on the moon. Teams worked to solve three challenges: where to find energy sources, where to find water, and where to find oxygen.

The STEM Mentoring program provides Club members an opportunity to build teamwork skills such as collaboration, problem solving and sharing ideas. On May 29, the teams gathered at the Mt. Airy Club to showcase their solutions.
Member Spotlight: Charles, Mt. Airy Club

The BGCTC K-6 Literacy Program embeds positive youth development, social and emotional learning techniques, and family engagement within literacy instruction. Our overarching goal is to ensure that all members are reading at their appropriate grade level and mastering the skills necessary to transition from learning to read to reading to learn . We are currently completing our spring literacy program assessments. Results to date reveal positive gains at all age levels!

Second grade member Charles has moved from Low Risk (31st-85th percentile) to College Pathway (above 85th percentile)! He has been enrolled in our literacy program for the past two years, and has made excellent growth in reading throughout the 2018-2019 school year. He is a creative and diligent student, displaying leadership qualities in the classroom by helping other students who struggle with reading. Charles loves to work on writing, spending time writing stories and creating his own comic books.
Send a Kid to Camp this Summer!

With your support this spring, we can Brighten the Future for thousands of Twin Cities youth by providing a week-long summer camp experience at our Voyageur Environmental Center, located 25 miles west of Minneapolis-St. Paul. For many, summer camp will be their first opportunity to pick up a bow and arrow, sleep outdoors, or swim in a freshwater lake.

The Weinert Family Foundation has generously offered to match all donations made to Voyageur Environmental Center, dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000. That means your donation will have double the impact. Donate today to Brighten the Future for local youth by providing them with a week at Voyageur.
