Village Awards Grant to Fight Teasel
Teasel Stalk
A Community Grant was awarded by the Long Grove Village Board to the Long Grove Park District to assist with eradicating the invasive plant species, Teasel. The $10,000 grant will help the Park District to hire a professional service provider to cut down diseased trees, maintain bike paths, bridges and buildings, all of which offer recreational opportunities for Village residents. In preparation for this effort, two volunteers from the Long Grove Park District mapped out all areas where Teasel can currently be found in the Village.

Residents are reminded to do their part in guarding against this invasive plant by cutting Teasel stalks and disposing of them in secured bags prior to disposal. Herbicides can also be used to cut the stalks, and native grasses can be planted to prevent Teasel from returning.

For more information, please contact the Park District at 847-641-5590

Village Receives Stormwater Management Grant
The Village of Long Grove applied for a Lake County Stormwater Management Commission (SMC) Grant to help cover costs for drainage improvements in the road right-of-way on Chickamauga Lane. The work to be completed will address ponding of stormwater and the resulting runoff that has presented issues for the road, pavement and work completed by utility companies, such as ComEd. The total estimated cost to correct existing drainage problems is estimated to be $61,828, and the grant will reimburse the Village up to $30,000. The funding for this project will be included in the draft FY 2019-2020 Village Infrastructure Budget.
Robert Parker Coffin (RPC) Road
Bridge Update
At the February 12, 2019 Long Grove Village Board meeting, the Board approved professional architectural services from ESI Consultants, Ltd. (ESI) to develop plans for the replacement of the Robert Parker Coffin Road Bridge wood cover. The cover needs to be replaced due to an accident that occurred in June of 2018 when an oversized truck drove through the Bridge.  The cost of these services is not to exceed $54,000; the insurance company for the truck driver who caused the damages will reimburse the Village for 100% of the cost.

Once the architectural design work is completed, plans will be reviewed by the Village's Architectural Commission and then will move on to the Village Board for final approval. Construction is expected to begin by this summer. ESI is also preparing bids and other requirements for abutment replacement, in addition to steel repair and painting of the Bridge.
