Community-Engaged Scholars Program Student Input Session
Wednesday, February 24, 6:00-7:00PM

This input session will feature a presentation on a vision for a new Community-Engaged Scholars Program. The proposal aims to strengthen the academic support for students engaged in community and civic engagement in a “Community Engaged Scholars Program” designed to enable all undergraduates, regardless of major or minor, to strengthen their community service with a set of corresponding academic experiences and out-of-class co-curricular experiences. Your voice is important and we hope that you will join us on Wednesday, February 24th from 6:00-7:00PM on Zoom. To ensure that you receive the zoom link to attend please REGISTER HERE. Whether you are able to attend or not, please take a moment to review a summary of the proposal and submit your suggestions, questions, and concerns HERE for the committee to review. If you have questions, please reach out to Lucas Malo at lmalo@brandeis.edu.

Be a Gifted Giver in the Festival of the Arts
Be a Gifted Giver for the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts (April 25-May 1, 2021). Create something -- a drawing, a song, a video portrait, a book of poems or stories -- to give away to another Brandeisian. We will pay for your materials and shipping costs and create a virtual "catalog." Please register by February 28, 2021.

Why give it away? Because art can support community care.
Because making art can guide us in making sense of our lives.
Because generosity is an expression of caring, as is the joy of gratitude.

Food Justice Interest Group
Are you passionate about addressing the complex systems that are contributing to food insecurity?
We are creating a Food Justice Interest Group across the Brandeis campus where we can connect projects, programs and interested people together to collaborate and develop material that will address Food Justice. From creating a newsletter where we share information on volunteering opportunities, educational programming, and donation links-- to empowering all of you to help create innovative programming to address the systemic issues that lead to food insecurity. In partnership with the Zale Foundation grant and other on campus partners we hope to utilize our resources to make a change.
Please share your information with us and let us know your ideas with this Survey, we will reach out soon with opportunities! Thank you!

Splash Teacher Registration is now open!
Splash is a day where hundreds of middle and high school students join Brandeis University to take classes taught by us, the students, alumni, faculty, and staff of Brandeis. From techniques in cosmetics to the Greek-Persian War, classes can be either academic or unconventional. You can teach a class about anything that you are passionate about (a skill, a topic, a culture) to the Waltham community. In the past, classes have ranged from yoga, astrophysics, and poetry to how to solve a Rubix cube, entrepreneurship workshops, and so much more. No prior teaching experience is necessary. Splash will take place, virtually, on Saturday April 3- 4th. You can teach as many 1-hour classes as you want.
This is a great opportunity to gain community service hours, teaching experience, and to share your passion! In addition, it’s only a one (or two)-day commitment! If you are interested, please fill out this registration here. The deadline to complete this form is Sunday, March 27th. Splash will take place on Saturday, April 3rd from 12:00pm - 3:00pm and Sunday,April 4th from 12:00pm - 2:00pm.

Join the Roosevelt Fellows for Zoom Study Halls
The Roosevelt Fellows are sponsoring their first in a weekly series of zoom study halls on Wednesday Feb 24 from 5-7 PM in the RF zoom room! This is a pilot that will go through the end of March, and hopefully will be expanded until the end of the semester. Time blocks will rotate week to week.

Students can drop in anytime during the 2 hour block. One or two Roosevelt Fellows will greet them and serve as managers of the zoom room. Students will be able to opt for a quiet breakout room or remain in the main room. If students with similar interests attend, rooms for group work can be created.
Community Partner Opportunities
You're With Us is looking for 1:1 Mentors
You’re With Us is a nonprofit organization that works with young adults with disabilities in order to create more inclusive spaces. We are currently looking for Brandeis students to serve as 1:1 mentors for these young adults. Time commitment varies based on the mentee’s schedule but on average is about 1-4 hours a week. Mentoring can take place in-person, but due to the pandemic most matches are currently meeting virtually, so you can have zoom calls to keep in touch with your mentee. If in-person then Brandeis campus or Metro West Area. If you are interested visit us here!
Volunteers needed for weekly virtual visits with senior citizens
