It's hard to believe that our summer vacation is coming to a close and our new school year will begin on Monday.  The teachers have been here all week participating in professional development and setting up their classrooms.  They are looking forward to seeing all the students on the first day of school.

As we begin this school year, please know I applaud you for your choice in sending your child to St. Michael's Academy. You are giving them the gift of a Catholic education. It's a gift that can never be taken away and the benefits will last a lifetime.

Enjoy your last summer weekend.

God's blessings,

Ms. Ann E. Dougal

 1st Day of School

Where Am I Going?

Typically we have our 1st through 4th grade students report to the church on the first day to find out their classroom assignment.  The church is still undergoing renovations, so we will have students in those grades report to the gym.

Students in grades 5 through 8 will line-up outside with their classmates after the first bell and the teachers will bring them to their classrooms.  All teachers will have a sign designating their class.

If you do not know what classroom your child is in, there will be many staff members outside on the first day to help direct students to the correct homeroom teacher.

 1st Day of School Mass

Opening School Mass

All are invited to join us on Monday, at 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium for our opening school Mass.  Come and join us as we ask for God's blessing on this new school year.

What Do I Do With The School Supplies?

If you have not dropped off your school supplies, you can bring them on the first day of school or divide them up over the first several days. If you choose to bring them over several days, please make sure to bring your pen and pencil box and completed summer work on the first day.

 Back To School BBQ

The Fun Was Happening!

Over 300 students, teachers and their families gathered at Nathan Bill Park yesterday for the annual Back To School BBQ.  The fun was "happening" as students hung out and compared summer stories and parents caught up with each other.

A special THANK YOU to the Holy Cross Knights of Columbus for doing such a fantastic job cooking all the hot dogs and hamburgers.  We appreciate them and couldn't do it without them!

Important Parent Volunteer Information!

Parent Volunteer Requirements

St. Michael's Academy welcomes all parent volunteers.  In order to volunteer at the school or chaperone a field trip, all parents must complete the Safe Environment Training as mandated by the Diocese of Springfield.

The CORI background check and the Code of Conduct forms must be completed as well as viewing the safe environment video. A certificate of completion for the video will be provided at the end of the training and must be brought to the school.  A link to required information and the training video can be found here.

If you plan to volunteer for the Walk-a-thon on Sept. 28th, the above training must be completed.  Please plan to set aside 1 1/2 hours  to view the safe environment video and complete testing modules.

 Girls On The Run

  Girls On The Run Continues!

OK girls...get ready for Girls On The Run at St. Michael's Academy this Fall!

Registration for the fall season is now open for Girls On The Run for girls in Grades 3-5 and Heart and Sole for girls in Grades 6-8! Each season, our girls learn to recognize their individual strengths, and gain a better understanding of who they are, what's important to them, the value of teamwork, and developing healthy relationships.

Over the course of the ten-week program, girls develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. All girls in Grades 3-5 and 6-8 are welcome - nobody needs to be a runner. Our fall season begins the first week in September and continues for 10 weeks, ending with our GOTR 5k at Smith College.

We are also still looking for additional coaches for both teams. Coaches do not need to be runners. We hope you will join us for another great season!

For more information, please contact Kristie Budrecki at [email protected] or 413-271-4700, or go to www.girlsontherunwesternma.org.

 After School Clubs

Do You Have A Talent That You Would Like To Share?

St. Michael's is always looking for parent volunteers to lead after school clubs.  Do you have an interest?  Ideas for after school clubs might include a chess club, cooking class, arts and crafts class, public speaking class, creative writing class....the possibilities are endless!

If you are interested, we would love to chat with you. Please contact Nancy Coley in the Admissions Department at [email protected] or by calling (413) 782-5246, ext. 1208.

Our students really enjoy the clubs - consider joining us!
