Make a Difference Week

The highlight of MADW was the keynote address presented by Vida Benavides a Cal State East Bay alum. Vida has worked as Director of Constituencies for the DNC, Executive Director of APIAVote, and is currently with Davis Street Resource Center in philanthropy and community engagement. She encouraged students to get involved in their communities at the grassroots level and inspired us with her experience as a woman of color in the political arena.

Leadership Hayward College Edition
Leadership Hayward College Edition (LHCE) is a pilot program through the CCE this year. Modeled on a program run through the City of Hayward, LHCE is a civic engagement leadership program which enables East Bay students to meet with and hear from various community leaders, and learn how to get involved and make positive changes within their own communities. Students take part in 6 meetings throughout the year within the City of Hayward.

On Friday, November 15th, LHCE students and guest students from Dr. Maria Ortuoste's Political Science class met with Hayward City Council Member Sara Lamnin for a tour of Hayward City Hall and a visit to the council chambers to experience a mock council meeting.Council Member Lamnin is also a Cal State East Bay alum!
