Colonial Day is an engaging and action-packed day of learning that brings early American history to life for fifth-grade students. Participants enjoy dressing in colonial-period clothing, meeting with historical character interpreters and participating in teacher-led interactive sessions.

Eligibility: Oklahoma fifth-grade teachers and resource teachers who have attended the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute or George Washington Teachers Institute are eligible to apply to participate in Colonial Day with fifth-graders from their schools. Preference will be given to teachers who have not participated in the past. Due to space limitations, participation is limited.

Participation Requirements : Participating teachers must agree to attend monthly planning meetings in Oklahoma City and facilitate two of the teacher-led sessions at Colonial Day. Participating schools must pay a $100 fee and provide bus transportation for their students to attend the day's events, which are scheduled from 9:15 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. Each participating school must abide by capitol rules and must provide one adult for every eight students attending. Students should dress in colonial costume and bring sack lunches.
