Update from NACE President Rich Sanders
Is it fall or winter? Ever since returning from Orange Beach, Alabama, it has been unseasonably
cold in Polk County. Then you have the beginning of October-- rain then 5 inches of snow that lasted for 4 days. High temperatures in the 30's and lows in the 20's. I was really looking forward to San Antonio, TX and the TECERA Annual Conference where NACE would hold its Fall Board Meeting. Warm weather, a little golf and then spending time with the Executive Committee and Board of Director doing the work of NACE, and our Texas County Engineer friends finding out how NACE can help them do their work.

Update from Northeast Vice-President Kevin Russel, PE
2018 has been an extremely busy year for us here in Harrison County, Indiana. We have a number of projects that have been in development for some time that all went to construction this year. When combined with our normal construction budget, the result is over $18 million of projects in construction all at once, which as you might imagine, has made for a hectic summer. We are about 16 inches above normal in rainfall for the year too, so it has been a challenging construction season all around. 2018 has been an extremely busy year for us here in Harrison County, Indiana. NCHRP Alert - Validation of the Louisiana Interlayer Shear Strength Test for Tack Coat
TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Research Report 878: Validation of the Louisiana Interlayer Shear Strength Test for Tack Coat evaluates and validates a test method to determine the interlayer shear strength of asphalt pavement layers. The report includes three appendices documenting the field project checklist, photos of existing pavement distress in two states, and a summary of test data from field projects.

Improving Work Zones Every Day, in Every Way
FHWA has developed a comprehensive set of programs, strategies, and tools for the management of safer and more efficient temporary traffic control. The addition of work zones on busy roadways is a formula for crashes and increased congestion. In 2015, more than 96,000 crashes related to work zones resulted in 35,000 people injured and more than 700 reported fatalities.
