A Note from
Pastor Liz
Our Transition

Faith Church is moving forward in this period of transition with great lay leadership and energy and strong commitments to this community. McGregor Scott continues to chair the Profile Committee team as they assemble a survey and begin to communicate to us how each person can share their thoughts and feelings about Faith Church and about moving forward.

I hope each person is holding the church and our process in prayer and asking for the Spirit to see the ways in which we can each be a part of the mission and life of Faith Church. Please plan on coming to the FED breakfast on 10/27 and the Town Hall on 11/3 when members of the Profile Committee will be sharing their work with us all.

May God’s love and grace give us the strength and wisdom we need to be the Body Of Christ in this part of El Dorado County. God is counting on us!

Pastor Liz

2020 Pledge Reminder

Please contact the office if you have not filled out a pledge card for 2020 and would like to. We rely on our pledge information to plan our 2020 budget as good stewards. If you have any questions, please contact our Treasurer, Lynne Thomas, or Pastor Liz.

Profile Committee
Profile Committee Update at Fed Talks

As we create Faith Episcopal Church’s Profile in our search for a new Rector, we are asking the congregation to participate in our two surveys. The online survey will be available soon. It is similar to the survey used in our previous Rector recruitment. Due to the limitations of customizing to our specific needs, we are also including small group survey groups. The groups are listed below, they will be held at the church with childcare available and at private homes. Please use your voice and participate in both surveys. This is an important step in the future of our church and we want to hear from each of you.
Please sign up for a Small Group Survey Group after the 10 am service on Sunday, October 27
or phone the church office at 530-676-5348.

The eight questions that will be part of the discussion are listed in order to give you more time to discern before the meetings.

1. What would you like Faith Episcopal Church to look like in the next five years?
2. As the demographics of our community change what issues need to be addressed by our new Rector during their first year with our congregation?
3. What do you perceive as the three most important roles of our new Rector?
4. What are your ideas regarding our church’s growth, and what role would the new Rector play in that?
5. How important are mission programs in our ministry? What type of mission programs would you like us to support?
6. How important is it to partner with other religious traditions in our community?
7. How important is outreach with non-profits or other community groups as a church to fulfill our Episcopal tradition of service?
8. Is there anything else you would like to add?

Faith Mission Team at Work
Spirit in Action!

Please select the Spirit in Action Link below to read a wonderful report about the the Women of Change grant, in Kenya, that our mission team supported last year with three Small Business Fund grants of $150 each.

Grace (blue dress) and Ruth (white blouse) are mentioned in the update.

Exert from update: "Ever since they decided to change their lives for the better and received training at Ukweli training center, their lives have completely transformed. They were trained on gardening, poultry keeping, livestock rearing and baking pastry which they picked up with much enthusiasm and are now fully practicing in their farms. They received spiritual guidance and leadership skills as well to which some have become pastors and village elders in their communities. Their families have witnessed this incredible journey and are still in awe.

Through Spirit In Action, the women have found partners who are able to hold their hand and guide them in this newly found course. To give them hope and assertion of a better tomorrow."

Thank you for your continued support of Faith's Mission Team!

Stephen Ministry
News
New Stephen Minister Commissioning October 27

Three new Stephen Ministers will be commissioned on Sunday, October 27 at both services. Dena Nkadi, Linda Pietraczyk and Alexa Souza have completed fifty hours of training in ways to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support. Faith Church now has a team of fifteen Stephen Ministers.
Stephen Ministry is a one-to-one ministry for someone who is experiencing a difficult situation. Some examples are grief, loneliness, divorce, serious illness, disability, job loss, and supporting family members with life challenges. The care provided is confidential and compassionate. Stephen Ministers provide a listening witness to the caring presence of Christ and Christ’s community.
How do I request a Stephen Minister for myself or another person? To explore more about how a Stephen Minister might provide care for you or another person, you can contact the Care Coordinator, Linda West at stephenministry@faithec.org . You also can contact one of the Clergy or a Stephen Leader. If you are requesting a Stephen Minister for another person, be sure to secure that person’s permission first.

Candle Lighting Ceremony

In traditional All Saints' Day observances, candles are lit as an acknowledgement that our loved ones in Christ are not gone forever; the light that was lit in their hearts when they came into the family of God continues to shine in the presence of God.

All are welcome to join us on November 3rd for this special ceremony.

Divorce Care Group
You Don’t Have to Go Through it Alone.

Over the past 10 years, the DivorceCare support group at Faith has supported over 75 people who have discovered help, found hope, and experienced healing. We are starting another series on September 12. It will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Room D. If you have questions, please contact one of the continuing facilitators: Carolyn Flood, Mark Pinski, or Kim Dillon.

What is DivorceCare? It is not therapy or counseling. Rather, it is a friendly, caring group of people who will work alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. It is specifically designed for those who are separated, going through a divorce, or have been divorced and having challenges recovering from it. It’s a confusing time when you feel isolated and have lots of questions about issues you’ve never faced before.

The 13-week seminar is based on the bible and Christ-centered, but you don’t need to be a Christian to attend. Each session shows a 30-minute DVD video followed by small group discussion about the video. The format is set up so anyone can join at any time during the 13 weeks. The DivorceCare DVDs present experts, ministers, and Christian counselors discussing divorce-related issues such as depression, anger, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Real people share their stories of how they deal with the pain and heartbreak of divorce and separation. During the week between meetings, group members have a resource workbook containing daily Bible study and practical exercises to help them heal from their hurt and pain.

Thanksgiving Service
Tuesday November 26, 2019
6:30 p.m.

A National Holiday and Day of Thanks

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated in the United States on the fourth Thursday in Nov. This custom is based on the celebration of three days of prayer and feasting by the Plymouth, Massachusetts, colonists in 1621. There was also a Thanksgiving celebration with prayer by members of the Berkeley plantation, near what is now Charles City, Virginia, in 1619. The first national Thanksgiving Day was celebrated in 1789.

The collect for Thanksgiving Day gives thanks to God the Father for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. It asks that we may be faithful stewards of God's great bounty, providing for our own necessities and the relief of all who are in need (BCP, p. 246).

Prayer for Transition

"God of all time and seasons, we give thanks for what you have done in our midst, and we listen together for what you are calling us to be and do. Help us to learn from the past and then release it. Fill us with hope, confidence, and vision for the future you are creating. Give wisdom and courage to our leaders, especially our interim rector Pastor Liz Armstrong, and the one who will become our new rector. We ask all this in the name of Jesus, who by your Spirit and through your Church, walks with us and bids us to lives of love and service. Amen."
