Survey results: Short-term Rentals online open house

Community response to proposed short-term rental licensing requirements is mixed, based on results from an online open house survey conducted from Dec. 11, 2020, to Jan. 8, 2021.
Short-term rentals are not currently regulated in Washington County. In recent years, community members have written emails and letters and testified before the Washington County Board of Commissioners about the impacts some short-term rentals have on community livability. Land Use & Transportation Community Planning staff drafted issue paper Short-term Rentals: Issues and Considerations, and the Board subsequently directed staff to develop requirements and a licensing program.
The online open house provided background on those requirements, and 326 people took the survey. Results were mixed; some supported the regulations, some opposed them, and others said short-term rentals shouldn’t be allowed at all.
“There was no clear consensus on the proposed license requirements based on the survey results,” said Suzanne Savin, Project Manager. “But we received a lot of really valuable feedback that will be useful as we move forward.”
