Bay Area Host Committee and College Football Playoff Foundation partners with Landed
A joint announcement of a new partnership between the Bay Area Host Committee (BAHC) and College Football Playoff (CFP) Foundation with Landed, an innovative Bay Area company offering housing solutions, was held on Sept. 12 at the Oak Grove High School Theater in San Jose. Landed aims to make home ownership more accessible and less risky through financial coaching and down payment assistance. The College Football Playoff National Championship will be played on January 7, 2019, at Levi's Stadium. In the build-up to this iconic national sporting event, Landed, the BAHC and the CFP Foundation have aligned to combat a real issue facing Bay Area educators -- housing challenges as home prices continue to rise. This problem prevents great people from staying committed to the area and our future generations suffer as a result. Above, left to right:
Ryan Allen Hall, Director of Community Relations, College Football Playoff;
John Rubio, Associate Superintendent Human Resources, East Side Union High School District;
Martha Brazil, Principal, Oak Grove High School; Alex Lofton, Co-Founder, Landed; Jesse Lovejoy, Education Director, Bay Area Host Committee. To view a full photo album, visit our Facebook Page and be sure to LIKE us or visit www.ultimatesportsguide.com.

Golden State Warriors
OAKLAND, Calif. -- The back-to-back NBA Champion Golden State Warriors have launched their 2018 "Back to School in the Bay" initiative last week in an effort to help raise awareness about the importance of education and to get students excited for the upcoming school year. This summer, in partnership with Ross Stores, the Warriors also hosted two special Read to Achieve Summer Reading Time-Outs at the Oakland Public Library and the San Francisco Public Library. Over 150 youth attended and were treated to a reading by Olympic gold medalist Ruthie Bolton and Warriors' alum Kelenna Azubuike (pictured right). Text and photo: Golden State Warriors.

Brennan's Restaurant closes its doors (1959-2018)
After 60 years and three generations, the venerable Brennan's Restaurant in Berkeley served its last turkey and corned beef sandwich on Saturday evening, ending a journey which began in 1959 with founder John Brennan. Granddaughter and owner Margaret Wade is retiring with no plans to open another location. One factor she cited in bringing the storied restaurant to a close was a hefty rent increase. Their incomparable Irish coffees, among other staples, will be greatly missed by patrons. Photo by Ann Cooke.
|
Chloe Satterlee, a second-year nursing student at Samuel Merritt University, helped end Brennan's long reign as Berkeley's favorite sports bar/hofbrau with a pint in the final hours.
