WE'RE SORRY TO SAY IT, BUT HUNGER KILLS.
While it's true that few people starve completely to death in Canada, consistent hunger can affect health and life outcomes in many other ways - and so many of them can be
deathly serious.
Children without nutritious diets grow up at increased risk for chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes, as well as mental health issues like
depression and suicidal ideation. And for Canada's
most vulnerable people -
children, seniors, people living on the streets or with significant illness - the added risk of a poor diet can be the last straw.
And in a recent UNICEF report on child well-being
in 41 wealthy countries, Canada ranked 37th!
That's why we pick grantees that change these
long-term outcomes
for the better. Our grantees go so far beyond food. Sometimes the food we fund brings people to centres where they can access housing or mental health support; sometimes it brings them to better nutritional knowledge so they can raise healthy families on a budget; and sometimes it brings them to supportive community and hope. But from coast-to-coast, MAZON Canada is bringing organizations, mainly small and volunteer-run, the resources they need to not just feed their communities - but to
change their stories
.
TOGETHER, WE CAN RISE TO #1!
