Here is a look into our week at MCS:
Preschool and PreKindergarten - Beginning the alphabet! Starting in our workbook. Learning God created the world! God made me! God loves me!
Kindergarten - apples, matching numbers, the letter T/t, Noah, friendship
1st grade - bodies, Washington State, writing sentences, number bonds
2nd grade - space, ways to share stories, writing stories, open/closed syllables
3rd /4th grade - conductor/insulator experiment, place value/ measurement, reading stamina, Writing Workshop
5th grade - the Scientific Method, procedures for experiment/experiments, Sign of the Beaver, Outdoor Education
6th,7th, 8th grades:
Mrs. Rodriguez - Latin roots, proofreading stories, elements of line in art, beginning novels
Mrs. Moses - finishing work on the Metric System and the Scientific Method, learning conversational phrases in Spanish, factors and prime factors
Mr. Warren - (6) ancient Egypt/Genesis and creation, (7) world geography-latitude and longitude, Matthew and the temptation of Jesus, (8) Constitution and Amendments, Why should I believe?

| WALK-A-THON IS NEXT FRIDAY! |
| Our all-school Color-Run-A-Thon is next Friday, September 28 at 3:00, here at MCS. We need parents to throw color on the kids! We need parents to spray water on them, too! Come ready to have some fun! Reminders:
- Bring water squirting gadgets (for parents, not kids).
- Bring towels for your student/s or a change of clothes.
- Bring blankets/chairs to sit on.
- Bring food to share: Last name A-L: Dessert or Chips / M-Z: Veggies, Fruit, Salad.
- Instead of hot dogs, the school will provide fried chicken, ice water, napkins, plates, cups.
Super Important Part: We sent out the donor letter and parent instructions last week and it is attached below. It's included here again in case you need it. Please send these out by Sept. 19. NOTE: If you choose to seek donations through your personal social media accounts, keep in mind that the funds must be donated directly to MCS in order to be a tax-deductible donation, so please direct them to the donor letter for instructions. | This Friday, Sept. 21st, TAPP will hold the first Pizza Lunch for the school year. Students have the option of purchasing 1 slice of pizza (either pepperoni or cheese), a sweet treat, and Capri Sun for $4.00. If your child would like a second slice of pizza added, the total cost for lunch is $6.00. Orders must be submitted to the teachers before the students leave for Chapel. If you would like to pay for the entire year, you can submit payment in full to the office (one slice of pizza is $68.00 for the year and two slices are $102.00 for the year). The milkman has made his delivery and we now have milk available for the students. Prepaid milk cards are available in the office for purchase. Cards cost $10 and are good for 12 half-pints of milk.

The first TAPP meeting will be held Tuesday, September 25, at 7 pm in the school library.

| Parent Katherine Simmons is hoping to open up childcare during chapel time for families with wiggly little ones! To do this we need willing parents to rotate in to help watch those little ones in the nursery at the church.
It would be 1 hour on an occasional basis (dependent upon how many sign up), that is rewarded with a service hour and blessing other MCS families! Win, win!

TAPP is holding its MCS Holiday Bazaar again this year on Saturday, November 10th, at First Baptist Church. If you are a crafter and would like to be a part of this bazaar, complete the attached application and return to the MCS office with a check. Questions? Reach out to Carrie Cox or Missy Hughes.

Math Club for the Middle School begins tomorrow, Sept. 18th. It will regularly be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays right after school until 4:00 pm. It's a great time for students to get some extra help or just have a quiet place to complete their math and any other homework they might have. Students may attend on an "as-needed" basis and do not have to sign up for the entire year.

| NEEDED: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR |
The Athletic Director coordinates and plans all MCS sports for 5th-8th graders: Co-ed Soccer, Basketball, Cheer, Track & Field. This position pays a stipend for each sports season. If interested, please contact Elaine Obbink in the school office or via email: [email protected].

What can little kids learn when they are shopping with their parents in the grocery store? A huge amount!
They can learn about how to find the items and about what's the best value. They can learn about quantity. They can learn about quality. They can learn about how much you love hanging out with them in the store and how helpful they are to you. They can also learn about boredom. They can learn about not getting what they want. They can learn delayed gratification and self-control.
They can learn a lot. That is if they aren't watching a video on a phone or a tablet.
Many parents of young children allow that. It's understandable. It makes it easier in the short term. Nevertheless, Love and Logic is big on what happens later in the kid's life; what happens later on with your relationship with the child.
We are really big on paying now... rather than paying much bigger later on.
So... the next time you're in the store, would it be healthier for the child to be helping you shop? How can you make that happen?

Before you go, the child can help you draw pictures of the items you need to find. Another option is to print images of these items off the web. Now the child has something to hold in their hand as they help you on your mission.

When they find something you need they can feel great about themselves. If they spot something that's not right you can say, "Oh, that's really close! That's almost what we want. Let's look over here. Oh, look at that. It looks just like our picture. Look, it says 'Beans.' The letter 'B' stands for beans."

You can ask questions: "Are we going to get the small one for this price or the bigger one? I think we should get the bigger one. It's a better value. That means the price is just a little bigger, but the quantity is a lot bigger. 'Quantity' is just a fancy word for how much you get."

These things make shopping so much more fun and think about the lessons learned with respect to vocabulary, math, and other essential skills.
Of course, they are not always going to be happy about this approach, particularly if they have become accustomed to watching videos or playing games while you are shopping. This is okay, because it is most important to give our children small opportunities to become unhappy or bored.
Do these feelings still come our way as adults? The healthiest people are those who learned early in life that these feelings are temporary... and that they can cope and get through them.
