Session News
Business:

  • Session approved the Facility Use Request of Sydney Harris for a wedding in the Sanctuary on the afternoon of Sunday, October 18, 2020. All Covid-19 mitigation guidelines will be observed.
  • Session approved increasing the Pianist compensation from $500.00 to $750.00 per month.

Reports

Financial:
  • For the month of May, income of $21,763.00 exceeded expenses of $10,759.53 by $11,003.47. 
  • For the month of June income of $6,331.90 exceeded expenses of $2,337.44 by $3,994.46.

Presbytery Meeting:
  • A printed recap of the 145th Stated Meeting of the Presbytery of South La. (held via Zoom on June 2, 2020) was distributed. Of note, Highland’s contract for Stated Supply with Rev. Jeff Day was approved

Christian Education/Congregational Care

  • Homebound members are mailed or emailed the worship bulletin along with a note of encouragement and a summary of Rev. Day’s sermon each week. Currently five members and one friend of HPC receive these mailings.
  • Telephone calls to homebound and/or members who miss two consecutive Sundays are made as needed.
  • Mitigation procedures have been established and maintained for in-person worship.
  • Several church members have worked diligently to provide optional methods for sharing our worship service in on-line fashions.
  • A copy of the Facility Use Guidelines for Weddings was provided to members of Session for their review. Revisions will be considered at a later time.

Evangelism & Membership:

  • The average attendance in June was 22 with 5 visitors attending during the month.

Missions:

  • The Pentecost Offering totaled $245.00. Forty percent ($95.00) will be donated to the Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services of Baton Rouge. Sixty percent will be forwarded to the PC (USA).

Property:

  • A Sanctuary window was repaired at a cost of $271.00.
  • Repairs to the heating unit in the Great Hall will need to be made before the winter months.

Worship:

  • May 24 - A recording was made of Rev. Jeff Day’s sermon and music provided by AlbinaKhaliapova  on the piano and Eduard Teregulov on the Cello. They provided excellent musical support for all the services. On June 28th a duet was performed by Albina and another pianist.
  • Rev. Jeff Day became our Stated Supply Pastor on June 1, 2020.
  • May 31 - PENTECOST.  The church restarted, observing strict guidelines in view of the pandemic. Rev. Jeff Day gave the sermon - Moved by the Spirit.
  • June 7 - Trinity Sunday.  Sermon was - Relentless Prayer .
  • June 14 - Sermon – Life Together.
  • June 21 - Sermon – From Suffering to Joy.
  • June 28 - Sermon – Assured Testimony.
  • July 5 -   Sermon – Wholly Together.
  • July 12 - Sermon – Rejoicing in Suffering.
  • Since the reopening of the Church, progress is being made to relay the service on Facebook to members who are unable to attend. Carol Behrmann and Dave Adams are among those who have spent hours to overcome the problems including poor acoustics in the Great Halland insufficient Wi-Fi signal in the Sanctuary. The services however have been recorded and are available on Facebook.
