Walnut Grove Roadrunner Newsletter September 16, 2018
The Walnut Grove PTA would like to express our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the young girl our community lost this week.   You are in our thoughts during this difficult time .

The WG community is strong and you have our support.

Fun Run

The Fun Run is  Friday, September 28th - less than 2 weeks away! Please note that this day is an early start for everyone!  All Roadrunners will begin school at 8:15am.  Packets will be coming home with your student on Wednesday!  If you have not received an informational email from your classroom Fun Run Room Rep, please let us know by sending an email to  [email protected].

To visit the Fun Run website, which shows run time schedules, please  click here.  We are also in need of some volunteers to help on the day of the run.   If you would like to volunteer, please  click here  for a sign up sheet where you can choose your task/time slot.

If you have not turned in PTA waiver for your student, please do so ASAP.  Students without this waiver on file WILL NOT be able to participate in the Fun Run.  To fill it out online, please click here. Can't remember whether you already turned in yours? Drop us a line at [email protected]

If you plan to volunteer the day of the Fun Run, make sure you've submitted your volunteer clearance form!

Run Club

The Fun Run is only 2 weeks away.  Come on out and build your running muscles and earn fun charms.  All WG Roadrunners are invited to join Run Club on the blacktop at 7:30 Friday mornings.  It's a fun, non-competitive and super healthy way to close out the week and start your weekend off right.   All participants are encouraged to stretch for 5 minutes, then run laps around the "blue line" for 20 minutes...that's it!  We record everyone's daily and cumulative distance.  Laps from the Fun Run will count toward cumulative mileage and charms.

For any questions, contact Audrey Gillette at   [email protected]

Reflections Art

"Heroes Around Me"

That's the theme for the 2018-2019 Reflections Art Program which has been bringing the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969. And California State PTA and its members, families and kids are on the forefront of this amazing program, which increases community awareness of the importance of arts in education.

All students attending Walnut Grove are invited to participate and submit original artwork in one of six areas:
  • Dance Choreography
  • Literature
  • Photography
  • Film Production
  • Music Composition
  • Visual Arts.
On October 24th at 6:00pm, Walnut Grove will have a ceremony celebrating all the entries. The top artwork from each category will move on to the Pleasanton PTA reflections ceremony to be held in the first part of December.

All entries must be received by 2pm Monday, October 17th.
If you have any questions, please contact  Amy Paden at

Cub Scouts

*Please note that the meeting date and location have changed!*

If you have a boy or girl in grades K through 5 and are interested in Cub Scouts, please come learn all about Pack 910 at our first meeting of the year, tomorrow Monday, September 17th at 7:00pm in the Walnut Grove MPR.

We'll have a fun bottle rocket project for the kids and information for the adults. Pack 910 welcomes all boys and girls for a fun year of campouts, building projects, pinewood derby car races, skits, outdoor skill building, and a whole lot more. In recent years we've slept aboard the tall ship Balclutha and the U.S.S Hornet, camped at Pinnacles National Monument, built go karts and catapults, carried out clean up projects in our community, and learned about citizenship and history.

We would love to see you there tomorrow!  If you have any questions, please contact Jason Bury at [email protected]

Calling All Talented Decorators

PPIE's Fall Gala promises to be a spectacular evening yet again, and the organization seeks talented table decorators to enhance the experience while raising funds for PUSD programs.

The committee is  working with  PPIE  and each school site to collect donated centerpieces for display on each table at the  PPIE  Gala on Friday, October 12th This year's theme is Harvest Moon. Ideally, donors use the theme and creatively incorporate it into their centerpieces, which will then be used as prizes for a game that attendees can participate in (raising funds for
PPIE  to use to enhance our school staffing).  We likely need two centerpieces per school to create a beautiful dining room full of different interpretations of the theme.

For more information, details or questions, contact
[email protected]  before Wednesday, September 12th.

Practices begin the week of November 5th and games begin on December 8th. All skill levels welcome!  Pleasanton residents only. Registration fee is $175 which includes a jersey, practices, and games.

Please click here for an informational flyer with much more information, as well as a game schedule.

Drinking Water Testing

PUSD will be testing for lead in drinking water in accordance with State law, which requires community water systems to test lead levels in drinking water at all California K-12 public school sites that were constructed before January 1, 2010. The State defined threshold for acceptable levels of lead in drinking water is 15 parts per billion (ppb).

We are coordinating with the City of Pleasanton (City), our water provider, to conduct this testing, which will take place between September 17 and October 4 in the mornings prior to the start of school. We'll be testing a minimum of five locations at all school sites District-wide and expect to receive results prior to the end of the year.

The City will be sending the samples for analysis and notifying the District of the results. If any location shows more than 15 ppb of lead, the District will immediately begin remediation efforts.

Additional information about the testing program is available by clicking here and here.
