Are You Looking to Help Someone in Need This Christmas?
We still have about 20 families left.

Christmas is a time of celebration and joy for most of us at Christ Church, but for those living in poverty it's their most challenging time of year. We can help.

The Christ Church Christmas Angels Ministry connects us with people in need all over Chicagoland. It's one of our most important outreach ministries because it's an opportunity for us to come together as a community and express our faith by being generous.  Questions? Email Julie Flood or 847-903-2390.

Churchyard Rates to Increase on December 1

Just a friendly reminder...at the end of September we sent out a letter to the parish about the fact that the cost of spaces in our lovely Churchyard were going up on Dec.1, 2019. It has been a dozen years since we have done this. If you are interested in purchasing space, just contact our Parish Administrator, Charlotte McGee, at 847-446-2850 or   [email protected].

Sunday, December 1 will be our next collection for the New Trier Township Food Pantry.

The Pantry has asked us to help them stock up on some specific items this month, and this is a perfect time of year to dig a little deeper and help support our neighbors who rely on the two bags of groceries per week that they get from the Pantry.  We will be collecting the following in the Prevost Cloister following both services on December 1:
  • Cooking Oil (they can never keep this in stock)
  • Condiments & Salad Dressings
  • Cookies (everyone likes treats, and they cannot keep cookies on the shelf because they are so popular)
  • Cleaning supplies (not able to purchase with food stamps)
  • Laundry Detergent (smaller containers, not able to purchase with food stamps)
  • CASH (any donations beyond the amount of what the Pantry Committee purchases monthly goes directly to the Pantry so their staff can purchase whatever items the need most at that time)

THANK YOU for supporting this ministry that is so vital to our community.
Our Choir to Sing at Village Tree Lighting
Friday, December 6

Our choir will be leading carols at the Winnetka Tree Lighting and Holiday Market! Come and sing along with us! The event starts at 4:15 and our choir will be singing at 5:15. The event is in Dwyer Park which is behind the Winnetka Post Office.
Christ Church will have a table with cookies and cocoa.
First Fridays continue in December on... the First Saturday!
December 7 - Christmas Open House at the Rectory
Ugly  Christmas  Sweater Attire Encouraged!

This year, the Christmas Open House at the Rectory (458 Maple Street) will be on Saturday, December 7 from 6-8PM.  This will take the place of our First Friday social evening.  No need to bring a dish-just bring yourself and, as always, a friend.  Christopher will provide various Merry Goodies for the season. Come join the fun and enjoy the company of your friends at Christ Church!  Almost Tasteful Lawn Art of the Season included at no additional cost. Please RSVP here or call the office at 847.446.2850.

Complimentary childcare in the Parish House. Nursery for children of all ages.
Calling All Grand Receipts

This is a slam-dunk fundraiser because we all shop at our wonderful local grocery store (some a lot more frequently than others.) The Grand Food Center (Winnetka & Glencoe) has agreed to sponsor our mission trip and you can help! Save all your receipts and place them in the labeled collection cans in the Prevost Cloister, McClain Room, Youth Ministry credenza, and church office. Thank you!

The more the merrier, so save the date and invite friends!

We will wrap presents for the homeless, eat dinner (and Christmas cookies!), sing carols, and get a visit from St. Nick! It's a great time to celebrate with your church family and introduce your friends and relatives to our church community. Suggested donation is $15/person or $30/family. Dinner will be a taco bar;
sign-up  to bring a side, dessert, or fruit!

Christmas Gifts for Flowers and Music Christmas at Christ Church

Please click on the link below and return with a check to the Parish Office. Gifts received by December 13th will be listed in the Christmas printed program.

The 2040 Committee's discernment process started and ended with asking how God is calling CCW to be a community of faith in the Episcopal tradition.

The Committee concluded that God is calling on CCW's abundance rather than its scarcity, to bear witness to God's presence in our lives and to take action to ensure our vitality and long-term sustainability. To support this call to action the committee created CCW Guiding Principles for a vital way forward for our parish.

CCW Guiding Principles
Support our Members - An Inward Focus on the People Who Sustain our Core
Serve as Ministers  - An Outward Witness to the Presence of a Living God
Grow our Church - An Essential Christian Mission is to Share the Love of Christ

With these new Guiding Principles as our core focus, how can CCW reimagine our Episcopal community and use our abundance of resources in new ways to enable a faithful and engaged community?

Save the Date: Please join us on Tuesday, January 7th at 7PM in the Chapel at 470 Maple for additional details.
Vestry Nominating Committee Receiving Names
Deadline is Friday, November 29

Our parish by-laws require the Rector to appoint a committee of the four retiring Vestry members and at least five other parish members to the parish Nominating Committee. They are to nominate a slate of four people for an upcoming Vestry term of three years each for our election at the Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 26, 2020.  In addition, we need to nominate a Junior Warden for a term of one year to be followed by a year as Senior Warden.  If you have a nomination to make, please send that parish member's name to Office Manager Charlotte McGee. Nominees must be 16 or older. Parish nominations close Friday, November 29. The committee meets on Sunday, December 1.
Youth & Children's News
New Nursery Space!

What a wonderful problem to have:
Our Nursery was getting too small for all the babies and toddlers we have using it, so we are moving it across the hall to a larger room that will be ideal. Come check it out this Sunday!
Youth-made Christmas Ornaments for Christmas Angels

Looking for Christmas gifts that make a difference? Look no further than our next coffee hour! Outside the McClain Room, the youth are selling ornaments they made to raise money for Christ Church's Christmas Angels program, which helps the needy during the holiday season. We will continue to sell them through Christmas, while supplies last! Thank you to all who have already supported the youth and Christmas Angels by purchasing an ornament!
December 6 First Friday Faves

All 5th through 8th graders and their friends are invited to our holiday-themed First Friday Fave on December 6! We will be in the Great Hall from 6-7:30PM. Walk on over after the Winnetka Tree Lighting for some hot cocoa and pizza! We will play games, make evergreen Advent wreathes and Christingles, and assemble toiletry bags for people in need. Please RSVP or just show up!

Second Sunday Soul Fuel on December 8 @ 4PM

Soul Fuel is a youth group for high schoolers and their friends. We meet on the second Sunday of every month at 4PM. On December 8, we will meet in the Great Hall at 470 Maple because we will be setting up for Wrap N Roll, which is that evening. We need your help decorating the Great Hall and the Chapel for wrapping, eating, St. Nick visiting, and singing! Please RSVP or just show up! ALL are welcome!

Christmas Pageant Sign-Up!

All children and youth are invited to join us for our Christmas Pageant to be performed Sunday, December 15 at the 9:30 service. Our beautiful and low-stress pageant requires no memorizing of lines, only one rehearsal for the older children, and no rehearsal at all for ages three through 2nd grade (except for Primary Choir, who will attend rehearsal.)

The role of Mary is already taken for this year, but we have plenty of additional roles to suit everyone: Joseph, Baby Jesus, angels, shepherds, sheep, and friendly beasts. Plus narrators, scene directors, and behind the scenes helpers. Costumes provided. Primary Choir and Third Grade Choir do not need to sign up, they automatically have a role.

Our one rehearsal is Saturday, December 14, 9:00-11:00 for all cast members age third grade and up AND Primary Choir choristers.

Please sign up on our website or send an email with requested roles to  [email protected] or  [email protected].

Opportunities to Serve
A Just Harvest - November 23
We Need Cooks, Servers, & Shoppers

DID YOU KNOW that our Parish serves approximately 150-175 hungry patrons each month at A Just Harvest Community Kitchen in Rogers Park.  We'd love to have you join this ongoing ministry.

Questions? Contact Jenny Smith or Suzie Peregrine for more information and/or to volunteer.

Most volunteers leave the kitchen with the sense that they have personally gained more than they have given. Come see for yourself.
