San Bernardino Community College District Receives $3 Million in funding from the Economic Development Administration
San Bernardino Community College District (a CC client) received $3 Million Dollars from the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant. The US Department of Commerce recently released the following statement:
 
US. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross announced that the EDA is awarding a $3 million grant to the San Bernardino Community College District to modernize two existing buildings for a new workplace development facility. The EDA Grant will be matched with $3 million in local funds and is expected to create 369 jobs, retain 893 jobs, and generate $120,000 in private investment.
 
Training services will be offered at the facility will allow students to gain employment in a variety of different fields such as advanced manufacturing, logistics, retail, and hospitality. This project will help revitalize the area and provide additional tax incentives for business development.

California Consulting Client, Twentynine Palms, received $2 million for a new Visitors Center and Cultural Museum in Joshua Tree National Park
CC congratulates the City of Twenty Nine Palms (a CC client) for receivi ng the Protect Cultural, Community and Natural Resources award in the amount of $2 Million from the  Natural Resources Agency

The monies will go to construct a dual-purpose building that will serve as a visitor center for Joshua Tree National Park and a cultural center and museum for the Twentynine Palms Chemehuevi and San Manual (Serrano) Bands of Mission Indians. The center will showcase elements of the park's Campbell collection of prehistoric, historic and tribal artifacts, which date back 10,000 years to the earliest human habitation of the area known as the Pinto Basin Culture. The visitor center will also facilitate the goal of becoming a gateway to the Joshua Tree National Park.

This latest achievement is another example of the commitment of City's leadership to protect and promote the quality of life for its residents.

Los Banos Unified School District Receives over $1.2 Million For The Tobacco Grant Program
CC congratulates Los Banos Unified School District (a CC client) for receiving the Tobacco Grant Program in the amount of $1,291,910 from the California Office of the Attorney General.

The District will use grant funding to hire 2 new SROs through the Los Banos Police Department. These SROs will be responsible for educating students, parents, and retailers about the dangers of tobacco and e-cigarettes and the consequences for selling or giving tobacco products to minors. The new SROs will establish a task force that performs shoulder tap investigations, helps develop new policies and procedures, and compiles a list of resources for families and minors with tobacco offenses. The District will also obtain vape detection devices for bathrooms and locker rooms and signs for both high school campuses

This latest achievement is another example of the commitment of Los Banos Unified School Districts leadership to protect and promote the quality of life for its students.

This funding will be used for Tobacco education for KCUSD, officer and tobacco retailer training, shoulder tap and minor decoy operations.

Gardena PD will use these funds for tobacco law enforcement for retailers and education for minors.

ABC Unified School District Receives High Return on Investment
ABC Unified School District has been a client since August 2018. In that short amount of time, California Consulting has written the following grant applications that have been awarded: 

K12 Strong Workforce Program  $189,252
Baseball Tomorrow Fund $49,045

Grand total of $238,297 which is a 2648%   return on their investment!

The City of Stockton

California Consulting is pleased to spotlight our client, The City of Stockton! Stockton is the  county seat  of  San Joaquin County  in the  Central Valley  of California .

Stockton was founded by Captain Charles Maria Weber in 1849 after he acquired  Rancho Campo de los Franceses . The city is named after  Robert F. Stockton ,and it was the first community in California to have a name not of Spanish or Native American origin. The city is located on the  San Joaquin River  in the northern  San Joaquin Valley  and had an estimated population of 320,554 by the California Department of Finance for 2017.

Stockton is the  13th  largest city in California and the  63rd  largest city in the United States. It was named an  All-America City  in 1999, 2004, 2015 and again in 2017.

S tockton has a rich culture in the arts with the third oldest orchestra in California. The local college,University of the Pacific ,  is known for its music conservatory and for being the home of the Brubeck Institute, named after Dave Brubeck, a  Pacific  alumnus and jazz piano legend. The institute maintains an archive of Brubeck's work and offers a fellowship program for young musicians. The Brubeck Institute Jazz Quartet is composed of Pacific students and tours widely. Stockton is also home to may theatres, mus eums, and galleries.

Dr. Julie High, Project Manager
California Consulting is pleased to highlight Dr. Julie High in this month's newsletter. Dr. Julie High is a Project Manager with California Consulting with over twenty-five years experience in grant writing for education. She has secured more than $35 million in educational grant funding, with over $25 million for one school district.

Julie has experience working in many roles in public education: high school teacher, staff development specialist, middle school instructional coach, preschool director, after school program director, elementary principal, and director of program evaluation and IT. Throughout all of these primary roles Julie focused on improving education for traditionally underserved populations with successful Federal and State grant funding. In 1994 Julie organized a community collaborative of private businesses and social service agencies to improve services to the outlying community. This collaborative continues to meet and promote community health through its current family resource center base.

Julie earned her Bachelor’s degree from UCLA, Master’s degree from San Jose State University, Professional Administrative Credential from the University of Santa Clara, and her Doctorate in Education from Fielding Graduate University.
When she’s not writing grants, Julie can be found riding and competing in upper level dressage with her Lusitano gelding, Cefiro do Ceu.

Major League Baseball (MLB-MLBPA) Youth Development Foundation

Deadline : Continuous – Applications are reviewed quarterly by the Board of Directors

Amount: Not specified

Eligibility: Nonprofits, public school, municipality, MLB Club or American Indian Tribe. Board is looking for innovative and creative ideas to increase baseball/softball opportunities for youth (20 and under), related experience, committed staff, financial stability, business plan to attract other funders, helping underserved youth.


Foundation considers requests for a variety of purposes including funding capital projects (e.g., field renovations, baseball/softball programs and education initiatives. Capital projects include: building and renovating fields and practice facilities and installing lighting. Baseball/Softball programs include: in-school/after-school baseball/softball programming, equipment and uniforms, umpire fees, player registration fees and practice facility rental fees. Education initiatives include: programs, exhibits and other learning opportunities that use baseball and softball as its primary focus to promote interest and engagement in the game
California Fire Foundation

Deadline : November 15, 2019

Amount: $7,500 to $15,000

Eligibility: Fire departments, firefighter associations, fire safe councils, safety-focused organizations in California


This grant opportunity is through the support of an Edison International award to the CA Fire Foundation and enables us to extend support for projects that include, but are not limited to, small-scale mitigation projects, habitat restoration, fire prevention education and planning, first responder training and community outreach and disaster preparedness. This year’s application cycle has extended eligibility from fire departments and firefighter associations to now include fire safe councils and safety-focused community-based organizations (including CERTs) in our service territory.
